I had to edit my original post due to the same issue. It may help you to follow the instructions in step 5.

Make sure that you back up your dod folder before you let the new update run. The update will erase your old dod folder.

There is a temporary fix until you get your custom files converted.

1. Locate your new "custom" folder.

--C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Day of Defeat Source\dod

2. Create a new folder inside of the "custom" folder and name it something like: mycustomfiles

3. Move your old files over to that folder. (cfg, materials, models, particles, resource, scripts, sound)

4. You can move your custom config over using the same steps as above, but only your custom config should be in the cfg folder. (Do not move settings, user, valve.rc, etc.)

5. Move your maps and .res files to the new maps folder (Steam\steamapps\common\Day of Defeat Source\dod\maps). Move the .txt files from the old dod\resource\overviews to the new folders. Move the .vmt and.vtf files from the old dod\materials\overviews to the new folders.

You could try:

Please exit Steam and go to the folder called C:\Program Files\Steam\ (this is the default location for a Steam installation - if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it).

Delete all of the files in this folder except:

The \Steamapps\ + \Userdata\ folders and Steam.exe (this file is listed as an application and features the black and white Steam logo)

Restart your computer.

Then, launch Steam.exe from within the Steam installation folder, and not from a pre-existing shortcut.

With Steam running, re-test the original issue.

Note: This process will not affect your currently installed games.

Additionally, please complete this process for your installed game(s):

I have already had mottola delete everything except steamapps, steam.exe, and he did delete his dods folder from within steamapps/common in the process, forcing a redownload. So that's a no go.

Did he delete his old dods folder?

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\yourname\day of defeat source

And are you saying that he basically reinstalled the entire game and steam already?

Did you delete you old dods folder?

It will not come back if you delete it.

If you did and also reinstalled everything, it makes me think that it is a video card problem or a video setting giving you trouble. When was the last time your video card drivers updated?

Were you having the problem and then updated your drivers and continued to have the problem?

Yes after the steam pipe I was having the problem, updated my drivers and then still had the problem

Hello Mottola,

Sorry for the delay. Please answer the following questions in order to help me help you solve this problem.

Were there any error messages upon crashing? If so, please give us whatever is in the error. If possible, keep your in-game console open when the map changes to see if there are any entries before you crash.

Does this happen on every map change, or just certain ones? Which map is the server switching to when it crashes?

Are you using any custom content? If so, what is it (skins, hud, etc.)?

Do you currently use a custom configuration? Dillon's config?

There are no error messages. My console freezes on crash. It crashes on every map in the pub. I uses skins and instances HUD but the crashing occurred before I installed them and I use dillons config but crashing occurred before installation

Make sure you are running Steam with administrator privileges, and that it is not running in compatibility mode.

Right click on DOD:S in your steam library, press properties. From there, click "set launch options..."

In the box that comes up, type the following;

-autoconfig

Press OK, and start DOD:S. The graphics settings may be different than what you are used to. Do not change any settings at this time.

Join any server, see if the game continues to crash.

If the game does not crash, there is an issue with some of your game settings.

If the game continues to crash, the problem should be unrelated to your in-game settings, which will tell me to look elsewhere. You should go back into your launch options, and remove the command you had typed in earlier.

If I can add something - as I also have this annoying issue - I noticed yesterday that my game doesn't crash when we change maps on the private. As I was leading the realism I was changing the maps myself. I didn't try it by having someone else switch it. I still encounter the issue in the pub though.

We are still working on this issue, though have yet to come up with some probably causes. Since Mottola claims to have completely reinstalled DOD:S, I'm not sure the problem is part of DOD:S itself.

I would suggest the following;

Close steam if you currently have it running.

Go to your main steam folder (For example, Program files\Steam\), and delete all the files within the main steam folder with the exception for Steam.exe, the SteamApps folder, and the userdata folder.

Run Steam.exe, allowing it to update fully.

I did some research and found out people are having the same problem on CS:GO, now given its a different game it may not work, but we should try.

Go to console and enter cl_disablehtmlmotd 1

This disables server ads and MAY help. Not entirely sure about this, but it's definitely worth a try.

i tried it as well didnt work this was my first attempt at fixing this problem. I had it not crash without doing anything to fix it just once and that was after the most recent steam update.
