  2. "It may be time for R. Stevie Moore to call the Guinness Book of World Records. At the age of 60, this DIY pioneer has self-released more than 400 albums (he's lost count), many of which are double albums. His sound diary, as he calls it, includes conceptual noise, spoken word diatribes, power pop, prog, punk, country, mini-symphonies and some genres that don't even exist yet. His albums, the majority of which are decorated and assembled by hand, are always stamped with his wry sense of humor" - Mark Griffey, Junk Media 2004 Unsung Father of Lo-Fi and DIY Pioneer, R. Stevie Moore performing "Back in Time" (1986) in a 1988 home video This guys out touring now, @ age 60 catch him while you can! http://rsmtour.tumblr.com/dates http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R._Stevie_Moore

  14. Archy Marshall, 17. Kid can sing flat. His lyrics dig through the offal of love with a deftness that one doesn't often associate with teenagers, though the vitriol certainly sounds familiar. A sample lyric, from "Out Getting Ribs": "I hoped I'd never be shut down / But girl, I'm black and blue / So beaten down for you / Well I'm beaten down and blue." Marshall produces his own instrumentals as well, which meld an R&B/hip-hop sensibility — loops, drum machine, the clatter of urban life — with the warm piano and murmuring bass of soul music. The music has a certain remoteness to it, which makes the first listen cold and a little forbidding, but King Krule could catch on here. Americans are always looking for the next British sensation, and though Marshall's voice deviates from those of polished crooners like Michael Buble, their success shows that there's still a market for men who can sing with gravity.

  16. Vice sails to the North Pacific Gyre, collecting point for all of the ocean's flotsam and home of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch: a mythical, Texas-sized island made entirely of our trash. Come aboard as we take a cruise to the Northern Gyre in the Pacific Ocean, a spot where currents spin and cycle, churning up tons of plastic into a giant pool of chemical soup, flecked with bits and whole chunks of refuse that cannot biodegrade.
