Purchasing a Router - Could Use Opinions
Dillon 1st MRB replied to Janke 1st MRB's question in Hardware Guides & Maintenance Questions
http://homestore.cisco.com/en-us/Routers/L...9VVviewprod.htm Cisco E2000 is a pretty good value. Its gigabit and Wireless-N. Use HSRM10 for an additional 10% off. Brings the price down to $36 with free shipping. Regular price is $79. I'd pull the trigger today. Only good till 4/25. -
I'll need a couple of details..... Does the mic notification pop up in-game when you try to speak? If it doesn't, you need to remap your voice bind. What happens when you plug in or unplug your mic in the windows desktop? Does Vent work?
-
Probably better. There are soooo many ways to focus your empire/nation/cities..... So many different ways to win. And the steam achievements have turned me into an achievement whore.
-
Also, ALL DLC is 40% off! I'm geting all of them for ~$10.
-
Get it now! Thanks, Steam!
-
Get it. Its cheap and a good game. Well worth the $5 or $7.50 for all the DLC.

You will need to get Valve/Steam tech support to help you with resetting your password. Can't do a whole lot for that.
-
Make your config.cfg file read-only and it won't keep changing it back.

Connection problems
Dillon 1st MRB replied to Rawat's question in Hardware Guides & Maintenance Questions
It sounds like a hardware issue. Check your windows update... recently updated... see if you had a new driver for your NIC downloaded. -
Wow. Are you high? I'm having trouble following..... So, when exactly is it crashing?
-
Old school? Its like... in color.

I would even recommend going to 95. Then check what your gamm correction is, and make sure you have it as light as possible.

Do you have any mods installed? It sounds like you have a memory leak. -
My Comp < Patrick
Dillon 1st MRB replied to Patrick 1st MRB's question in Hardware Guides & Maintenance Questions
First things first. You are only able to see and use 3.3 gigs of ram because you are running a 32-bit os. If you made a move to a 64-bit os, you would have your full 4 gigs. Secondly, this would have a very neglible effect on play DODS. Now, which video card do you have? There are two models of 5700-series.... the 5770 and the 5750. The 5770 is much stronger card than the 5750. Now the bad news. The Phenoms were pretty bad CPU's. It isn't the speed or anything like that.... it was bad architecture. When it was released, it was pretty underwhelming. Couldn't keep up with the C2D or C2Q's. And then the erratum struck. Here is an article that deals with it: TLB Erratum at the Tech Report. Now, the good news. You can disable the TLB erratum error correcting in your BIOS. Read up on it, but it will greatly increase the speed of your cpu. Personnaly, the next $100 I got would be spent on a Phenom II cpu. These are great cpu's, but not in the i7 class. Then I'd look at a new gpu. You can get by with Windows XP for another couple of years, but its running out of gas. I just upggraded myself to 12 gigs of RAM for Civ V. -
I have seen things like this. Did you have any other symptoms? Pop ups getting blocked? Lag spikes on every server in every game? How about an increase in disk writes? You can usually hear them. I would try running this program first: http://majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Slim_d4191.html This is to ensure that it isn't something funky with drivers in your registry. But I would try running Disk I would advise you not run a defrag. You have data you can still save. If you defrag and you have a bad hard drive.... well, you'll move some of your good data to bad clusters and start losing more data. At this point, you can throw your hard drive into another computer and rescue data.... school work, saved games, movies, mp3s, etc. I would then run scandisk. Do it like this and don't touch your computer while its running. Double-click My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk drive you want to check. Click Properties, and then click Tools. In Error-checking, click Check Now. If you get a lot of bad sectors, its your hard drive. If not, you could be looking at a driver issue. Which version of Windows are you running? You could also be looking at a bad SATA controller/north bridge on your motherboard. We have to nail this down before it gets bad bad.

That's messed up. I'll see if I can play around with it tonight and see what's going on.

87dke3Fr.exe
Dillon 1st MRB replied to Yamagata 1st MRB's question in Hardware Guides & Maintenance Questions
If I remember correctly, I think you are dealing with a virtumondo/virtumumdo type of issue. These are 2 or 3 layer issues. The file you are dealing with, if deleted, will be respawned by a backup process that only exists to spawn the exe again. And sometimes, there is another backup process that only spawns the other process. These can be real bears to remove. I'd go malwarebytes, full scan, and see what happens. -

Dillon 1st MRB replied to Yamagata 1st MRB's question in Hardware Guides & Maintenance Questions
Use process explorer (google it in quotes) and you can find what program launches it. I would also look at using Hijack This (see the other post about Marsden needing help). But, I would first try malwarebytes. www.malwarebytes.org. -
Depending on your hardware, you may want to add a load string to your launch options -dxlevel 95 is needed for most recent video cards to ensure you take advantage of newer architectures.

Did you get an update for your audio drivers lately? The updates you get for Realtek audio drivers through Windows Update are pretty notorious. Check your update history and see if that happened.

I am very opposed to Stop Sign. Here is some dialog on Stop Sign. Its pretty much a scam. Its also another AV product, so it will conflict with MSE. http://www.mcse.ms/message956302.html You want to uninstall it, and then remove all of these. Again, you may need safe mode to do so. Dillon 1st MRB replied to Bullock's question in Hardware Guides & Maintenance Questions
Uninstall from the program manager anything that is ask.com or ask toolbar related. Also, if you can find anything from dealio. Next, try to remove it through hijack this. You may need to go to Safe Mode to do this. Also delete anything where the file is "missing." Remove anything from eAcceleration or StopSign. If Hijack this doesn't get us there, I'll find you a tutorial with specialized programs that can unhook them for you. -

Dillon 1st MRB replied to Bullock's question in Hardware Guides & Maintenance Questions
Is it ping just to games, or everywhere? If you can give me a ballpark of where its at, we can get somewhere. Also, if you can run hijackthis, and post up the logfile you get, it would help immensely. Hijack This! It will look like this, but longer: Running processes: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenOffice.org 3\program\soffice.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenOffice.org 3\program\soffice.bin C:\Users\TheEmrys\AppData\Local\Google\Update\1.2.183.39\GoogleCrashHandler.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\ICA Client\concentr.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\dcmsvc\dcmsvc.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Java\Java Update\jusched.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\ICA Client\wfcrun32.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\uTorrent\uTorrent.exe C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil10l_ActiveX.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Digiarty\WinX_HD_Video_Converter_Deluxe\WinX_HD_Video_Converter_Deluxe.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Users\TheEmrys\Desktop\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157
