  1. I'm a Top Gear whore. I'll give this one a try. Hope they can be good at honestly reviewing American cars like the Brits. Favorite episode was the one where they drive across Botswana. Olivaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! This was the show that hooked my wife on it.
  2. Janke's got a point here. I'd look at getting a case and power supply... you can find a decent un-pretty Antec one for ~$75. Then look at a motherboard, cpu, and RAM (you'll want DDR3). Start building a system that you can keep building on.
  3. I get that. But remember, the Mariner's scored fewer runs than any team since the DH was introduced. In 1972. Oh, and ESPN called them the worst offense... ever. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...mp;sportCat=mlb
  4. Turkey. I smoke it. Actually, I think I'll post a picture of it this year. It smokes for 12 hours, with me buttering it up every hour.
  5. Cain isn't more consistant than Lincecum. Lincecum has had a 10.24 K/9 over the last three years. This is phenominal, Randy Johnson 1993-2003 level numbers. Matt Cain has been very good with 7.29 K/9. Cain gives up .86 HR/9 while Lincecum only gave up .53 HR/9. If you move into Fielding Independant Pitching (defense not being a factor like in ERA), Lincecum had a stellar 3.08 FIP while Cain had a 3.26, which is still pretty nifty. However, once you start looking into WAR (Wins of Replacement-level player), Lincecum has been worth a total of 20.8 Wins over the last three seasons while Cain has been worth 11.2 Wins. Lincecum is without a doubt the better and more consistant pitcher. However, Matt Cain is a severely under-rated pitcher who has brought $80+ million of worth in wins for the low, low price of $1.9 Million per year. Of course, Lincecum has brought in $91.1 Million of worth for the bargain basement price of $400,000 per year (aside from his signing bonus and all). I know this is beyond what a casual fan cares about, but when looking at roster construction, the yearly budget is the constraint on how much can be spent on the team. The fact that the SF Giants have one of the top 2 pitchers in the NL (Top 5 in MLB) and a pitcher that would be in the top 20 of all of MLB all for $2.3 million..... Its a big reason why they were able to win it all. Now, if only they had brought Buster Posey up earlier in the season, they wouldn't have had such a nail-biter to make the playoffs. Stupid that they ran that sort of a risk just to push back his arbitration eligibility back another year.
  6. I think the sportswriters are finally understanding how "Wins" is mostly out of the control of the pitcher. The old school thought was that the pitcher had to pitch to win. Well, if your team doesn't score, it makes it hard for your pitcher to win. The big push the last 10 years on sabermetrics is something that I think has shown some progress this year. I don't think that Felix would have won this 3 years ago. It would have been unheard of 10 years ago. In the past, numerous pitchers were overlooked for this award. In 2005, Bartolo Colon won over Johan Santana (who came in third). Colon was 21-8 with a 3.48 ERA and 157 K's. Santana was 16-7 with a 2.87 ERA and 238 K's. Same thing happened when Barry Zito won in 2002 over Pedro Martinez. Zito: 23-5 2.75 ERA 182 K's Pedro: 20-4 2.26 ERA 239 K's The numbers are even better for both Santana and Pedro if you used more advanced stats.
  7. What usually happens is that config.cfg is something that Source will change on you. Once you add exec game.cfg and cave your config.cfg file, you will need to mark your config.cfg as read-only. Otherwise it will revert.
  8. Flickering guns - disable multi-core rendering in options. Flashlight - mat_disable_bloom 1 or impulse 100 Sprays - r_decals 2048 Mouse - sensitivity "1.3" (whatever number you want)
  9. I'm currently at work, but we can get this sorted out. The shading, flickering, and decals are fairly easy to fix. The flashlight thing.... sounds like your flashlight key is just not bound. The mouse sensitivity sounds wierd. When I get home and can access "gaming sites" (per my stupid firewall at work), I'll get you some details on what should be changed. What key do you have your flashlight bound to? F?
  10. And another name for a hooker is? Sweet. I wanted to nominate someone!
  11. Hopkins.
  12. Netgraph is a command already within DODS. In console, type netgraph_3 and you'll see it.
  13. I've always enjoyed the Ratpadz mousepads, and I'm going to have to order another one. However, I have an issue with my mouse. I've got an old Logitech MX310. This is sort of wierd, but I've had it since 2003. Its a great mouse, but I need something with more accuracy and it just doesn't glide like it used to. But, I'm actually having trouble finding a good mouse that meets my needs. Here is what I need: 1. Ambidextrous. I game on the left side of my keyboard, but I left-click with my middel finger. Yes, every time I shoot you, I'm giving you the finger. I've done this since Spear of Destiny/Wolfenstein, so don't try to get me to change. And yes, I use the number pad for movement. 2. My slide easily but with decent resistance. 3. Not too many buttons. 4. Higher dpi than I get now. 5. At least 5 buttons. I need the forward, back thing, as I talk in Vent with one of these buttons. As of yet, I haven't found a good gaming mouse that will do this. As of right now, I think the only mouse that would do this the MS Sidewinder x3. The only Razer I've seen that comes close only has 3 buttons.
  14. I was really suprised how much more accurate I became with a good mousepad. The texture of your mousepad, particularly if you have an older laser mouse, can make all the difference in the world.
  15. I'm going to need to get a new mousepad, myself. My old Steelseries just isn't cutting it anymore. I may try a new Ratpadz, but I'll have to check out that Vespula. I'm so freaking jealous that you got that case. Oh, I used to do some watercooling back in the day. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm liking the waterblock choices. Oh, one thing, always keep some extra fluid on hand. And be thorough with working the air bubbles out. Have fun with it! Oh, and.....
  16. I'm glad satirewire is back.
  17. I check out there, and found a pretty good thread on the steam forums. Here is what I would try next. Sort of an "out there" option, but it could work for you. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/show...d.php?t=1408288 Do not do this before our realism.
  18. If you launch the game from a desktop icon, right click on it and go to properties. At the end of the command line thingy that ends \Steam.exe", add -novid so it will look something like: "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -novid If you launch it from the steam icon in the lower right, go to library to where you see Day of Defeat: Source. Right click on it and select "Properties" Click on Set Launch Options. Add -novid to the options. What this will do is bypass the opening video and take you right to the Day of Defeat Source screen. What happens if you launch a different Valve game like Portal or Half Life 2?
  19. That's a nice case. That Silverstone is an awfully good platform. Pretty high cost... perhaps if your budget can go that high, maybe it could go a bit higher? Say, for a Thermaltake Level 10? PSU, HD's, and DVD Drives are all isolated from the mobo. Only $699.
  20. My one knock on the Lanboy Air is that wire management is a chore with all of those little screens, particularly watercooling. If you are looking at watercooling, let me direct you to this little gem that is on my wish list for $159. Oh, and the seeming lack of fans is because those are 200mm. Also, has a USB 3.0 port already. Corsair Graphite Series 600T Here is what catches my eye. See those little plastic star-shaped slots? That is for wire management. The hard drives are rotated for cable management as well. And these? External water cooler. If you would need more room, you could move up to the Obsidian Series for $269. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811139001 I'll see if I can dig up a review of it..... here you go.
  21. Makes me want to enlist twice. Also, the realism afterwards was frickin awesome. Loads of fun.
  22. Anti-Virus software is like a call girl. You can get the regular stuff that everybody uses and isn't as effective as they used to be (sort of the over the hill corner-trash) like McAfee or Norton. If I'm going to pay for it, I'm going to pay for high-class stuff like NOD32 or Kaspersky. But, I find nothing wrong with the cute girl that's free, I use Microsoft Security Essentials. Avast and AVG have pretty big followings as well. I just know I don't get any false-positives (STD scares) from MSE. Or you can be like Janke and only use two at once. The man is a stallion.
  23. CANADIAN WARSHIP SEIZES TANKER IN... WAIT... CANADA HAS A WARSHIP? Oh Right, and Switzerland Has Nuclear Weapons Arabian Sea (SatireWire.com) — Canadian television reported Friday that a Canadian warship in the Arabian Sea had seized a tanker suspected of smuggling oil from Iraq, leading many to suspect that the report was a hoax. The Halifax Class frigate Vancouver. Honest. "You're kidding, right? Canada has a warship?" asked U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. "Like for war? "Does Canada know?" he added. "Nobody was more stunned than we were," said Kali Omari, first mate of the seized vessel. "We saw this frigate steaming toward us, and we were worried, but then we saw the maple leaf on the flag, and we thought, 'Oh, Canadians. What the hell do they want?'" When an officer of the HMCS Vancouver announced that the tanker was about to be boarded, the crew of the detained ship was confused, said Omari, but their confusion quickly turned to anger when they saw what the Canadians sailors were carrying. "They were armed. With guns," said Omari. "Canadians. With guns. And a warship. What is this world coming to?" "They were pretty rude, too," Omari added. "They started asking us all sorts of questions, like 'Where did that oil come from?' But first we wanted to know who gave them the damn warship." According to Canadian defense officials, the Vancouver is one of four frigates deployed in the region to assist in the U.S.-led Afghanistan conflict. The tanker was stopped, officials said, because its cargo of crude oil violated United Nations sanctions, which prohibit Iraq from selling oil unless in exchange for food and medicine. The U.N. said the incident is already under investigation, and promised swift action against those found responsible for giving the Canadians guns. Initial findings indicate that the Vancouver crew may have been watching too many American television shows. Copyright © 2002, SatireWire. http://www.satirewire.com/news/feb02/warship.shtm
  24. That honestly sounds like one hell of a bachelor party. And honestly, the bruise makes it awesome.
