So a few of you may know this about me but the majority don't, I often take part in charities donating my time and money as often as I can to help out where ever and whenever I can. These organizations range from the Massachusetts vest-a-dog program, to donating time to Big Brothers, I even got my kitchen involved in donating to the local food pantry (Rhode Island has one of the highest homeless and malnourished percentages in the entire United States despite being one of the wealthier per capita states).
One of the organizations I follow and donate to almost every year is UNICEF and the good they strive for in the world. UNICEF's primary non-profit goal is that one day no child should suffer or die from preventable causes. These causes vary from unsanitary conditions, to abuses, and even to diseases. I'm not asking you to all go out and adopt a small dehydrated, malnourished boy or girl from a foreign country all I ask for is your time. You see almost every year UNICEF does some form of project to help such as every Halloween they ask children to collect small donations (pennies and loose change) instead of candy to contribute to their cause. Recently they started a new project called TAP, and what it is is blissfully simple, major partners are working with UNICEF to help provide clean drinking water to a child in need.
Right now they are paired with Georgio Armani and they have a really simple idea, how long can you go without your phone. For every 10 minutes you can go without playing with your phone a child will receive a days worth of clean drinking water. We all often never put much thought into our water, but imagine for a moment going an entire day without a clean safe source of water, no shower or toilet, no drinking water, not even enough clean water to boil pasta. It's really easy to get started too all you have to do is connect your phone to a network (I use my wireless so I don't kill my 3G) and go to the following website uniceftapproject.org, follow the prompts, put your phone down, and here's the important part, leave it alone...that's all no apps to download, no mandatory "donations" just don't fiddle with your phone. I've actually had it going for almost 3 hours today (my work has wi-fi) it's just that simple.
Thank you all for your time and consideration,
S. Griggs
