Let me start by saying to anyone in High-school or college, if you have an option to do ROTC or JROTC, do it. Its fucking awesome, I joined my freshman year of High-School and left middle of my junior year, so i did a total of 2 and a half years in rotc. I left because Wrestling occupied too much time for me to do both, and i stuck to wrestling.
In ROTC I reached the rank of PO2 (Petty Officer 2nd Class, E-5), i participated in 3 "offices" Drill Team, Rifle Team and Color Guard. I Was in charge of PT (Monday's and Wednesdays) and I inspected my platoon and squad (2nd platoon 3rd squad) with my CO. It was tons of fun, and i met all of my current best friends in there (not you sanbourne....youre not my bff, stop sending nudes).
We also got to go on trips to both Parris Island, SC. and Ft. Benning, GA. Where we went through a week of "basic" we were given real DI's and Drill Sergeants, we got put in the OC chamber...twice.... got to use the simulation M249 SAW's and M16's, we ran the "confidence" course, and attempted to complete the swim tests
On Rifle team i shot a high of 245/300 on sporter, which means I didnt wear the canvas clothing Precision Shooters wear, the only equipment i had was a sling, my rifle, and a Scope (not on the rifle). For those of you who don't know, the rifle team doesn't fire "live" ammunition, it is gas compressed, and fires a .177mm round. Yes, its small and doesnt have very much kick. But i could hit a bullseye (which is roughly the size of a pencil tip) standing 10 meters away fairly consistently. there are 3 positions Standing, Kneeling, and prone. My highest score was a 75/100 standing, a 100/100 prone and a 98/100 kneeling, (these were all shot at different times and not added together like my 1st score was).
Color Guard was probably my favorite, probably because that was the one i was best at, (i was only on drill for a few months before going to colorguard) We got to wear SDB's (service dress blues, which are sexy as fuck;)) and we looked better than the rest of the unit when we got inspected.
I really regret leaving, but I'm excited to do it all again in college, and to actually join after.
