Ping Issues on the Pub
Yamagata 1st MRB replied to A. Cannon 1st MRB's question in Day of Defeat: Source Questions
Traceroutes are very useful. If I get enough users with issues and proper traceroutes during the ping spikes, I can report it to Gameservers and have them optimize some pipes for us. -

WARNING -- Phishing/Hacking Attempts
Yamagata 1st MRB replied to Yamagata 1st MRB's question in Day of Defeat: Source Questions
Anti-viruses work off of databases of "known" malware, that's why you need to update your protection so often, there are set definitions of viruses. In addition, it's using steam and your browser as a means to infect your computer, these are already "green-lit" by all your anti-virus programs. If it's new, it's not going to flag it as a known threat, this is where you, the user, needs to be diligent and check the source. Before I even clicked the link, I googled screen-picture or whatever the site hosting this "wtf dude" image. That's where I hit the "unknown site certificate" and pre-existing steam community posts results. Google is your friend! -
WARNING -- Phishing/Hacking Attempts
Yamagata 1st MRB posted a question in Day of Defeat: Source Questions
Hello All, It looks like SSgt. Marchese's steam account has been compromised. If you receive a message "WTF Dude?" with a link to a "screen-pictures" site, DO NOT FOLLOW IT. You will download a virus, if not some sort of keylogger or malicious software. Steam community says it steals all your trade-able DLC and resends the virus to your friends list. I can PM the URL if anyone feels like getting hacked and/or wants to debug it! If you did download or follow the link, run a virus scan and change your steam password ASAP! Being in IT has taught me to be wary of unknown links from others, and to NEVER download unknown files. When I saw the link, I immediately googled the site for legitimacy and the list of warnings and infection reports on the Steam Community threw up the red flag. Please be cautious and browse safely! If anyone has issues, please post a request for help and our MSO team will help you out! Thanks, Lt. Col. Yamagata -
The 1st Marine Raider Battalion and its Command Staff would like to thank all of our veterans in the armed forces, past and current, for their duty and for their sacrifices. We may not all be soldiers, but we appreciate everything you've done for our countries! *Salute*

Resolved - Wells - new HD
Yamagata 1st MRB replied to Wells 1st MRB's question in Hardware Guides & Maintenance Questions
I put games that I want to load up quickly on there. If you have any other programs that have a long startup process, SSD is a good way to speed them up. -
Resolved - Wells - new HD
Yamagata 1st MRB replied to Wells 1st MRB's question in Hardware Guides & Maintenance Questions
Black November on Newegg! Amazon always has sales... This is the best time of year to buy computer parts. You could go very minimal with your SSD and use it just for the essential programs that you want to load quick and then put the rest of your money into a nice terrabyte HDD for the rest. -

Yamagata 1st MRB replied to T. Brown 1st MRB's topic in Day of Defeat: Source
Well, that explains a lot... Here's the notification on the fastDL server: I've put in a ticket with Gameservers, hopefully we can either increase our bandwidth a little for a day or upgrade permanently. If not, there's only a day before it rolls over into November. -

I'll double check the fast downloads server to make sure they're on there. -
Maybe I'll log into the MRB account and host you guys when you're playing on our server!

If you get a new computer, you could use your old computer as the "streaming box" to relieve strain on your main computer! But you would have to use XSplit or a capture card, I don't think OBS has an easy set up for that kind of thing. But of course, OBS will work if you get a new computer too. XSplit and capture cards also mean more $$

Ok guys, as many of you know, we run off donations. It costs us about $118 a month for our servers, vent and forums ($89 for the Servers, $23 for website hosting services and DNS, and $6 for gameme). That's $1,416.00 a year. Not too expensive, but it shouldn't be only a few people paying for everyone. Some units out there require you to donate monthly, we aren't like that, we simply ask for your help. I know it's hard for some people to donate, but if we all throw in 5 bucks here or 10 bucks there, we will have plenty to keep things running. It all helps, even if 5 is all you can afford, otherwise we will not have any servers at the end of this month. If you want to have a place to call home, then any help is appreciated in this matter. And again I would like to stress that we understand not everyone can donate, all we ask is for those who can spare a bit to help keep our great community going. There are now two ways to donate! If you would prefer to donate directly to the PayPal, or set up a recurring donation, you can click the PayPal link on the homepage or you can click the button below: Donate! We've removed the GameServers donation link from the homepage as this only goes towards the game servers and does not allow us any control over donations. If you would prefer to use that method, it is still available at this link http://www.gameservers.com/clanpay/?clanid=abf913e1ceeeb90649e2e4852f9b6593 When you donate to our server, it donates to the unit's Paypal account. In this case I have ownership to the account, but the command staff has access to see the funds, and where they are distributed. Money donated to the servers travels directly into the servers themselves, so to speak. We are charged monthly for the servers to stay online, this includes the Public server, the Private server, and the Website hosting. All of these are automatically charged to the PayPal account when the billing period is due. Your help is very much appreciated! Lt. Col. M. McDowell Battalion Commanding Officer
