I'm thinking maybe two or three people will actually buy our T-shirts in addition the time it will take to set up, maintain and advertise.... In my mind, the cost out-weighs the income. Yes, we have both of our servers set to let players download the map from our fast-downloads server. Everything on This List is downloadable through the pub server. Usually people see the map download and cancel before it ends. However, for those that don't make it through the download, I would suggest making sure you are set up to allow custom files from the server and that your computer firewall is not blocking the download.

Check your BIOS as well. I have dual video cards and it was supposed to be baddass, but for a while it seemed that my graphics were crap and even the crappiest games would over-stress my computer and crash. I found that my computer was booting the on-board grapics chipset on my motherboard rather than with the videocards, and they would not show up in my device manager. So, check you BIOS for graphics adapter or something along those lines to make sure you're booting with the correct graphics card.

The server has had these settings since about when we moved servers: (copy/pasted right from our cfg file) sv_maxrate "25000" // Max bandwidth rate allowed on server sv_minrate "13000" // Min bandwidth rate allowed on server sv_maxupdaterate "67" // Maximum updates per second that the server will allow. sv_minupdaterate "33" // Minimum updates per second that the server will allow. sv_maxcmdrate "67" // Maximum updates per second that the server will allow. sv_mincmdrate "33" // Minimum updates per second that the server will allow. The server forces anyone above or below those rates to the max/min possible. Aside from hacking our server cfg file, you can't get around these settings. As for high ping, I am not going to be authorizing a ban, that just seems a step too far. If it is really having an effect on gameplay, a kick should suffice. (High ping usually does very little to registry and all that crap that people complain about.) We can discuss the idea of banning high ping later, but for now it's only an inconvenience.

It doesn't work in vent or it doesn't work at all with any programs? Are you running ventrilo as administrator? Did you check the input volume? Did you check your drivers?
