0 Magoo Posted September 10, 2011 Report Posted September 10, 2011 What OS are you using and tell us about your mic. Who is the manufacture? Is it USB or 3.5mm? Did it come with software? Quote
0 Lockwood Posted September 10, 2011 Author Report Posted September 10, 2011 its 3.5mm dynamode DH-660, im on windows 7, and no software at all came with the mic Quote
0 Janke 1st MRB Posted September 10, 2011 Report Posted September 10, 2011 Then if anything's causing the crash it's your sound card drivers, try updating them. Most likely they'll be Realtek, but it'd be good to double check. Quote
0 Lockwood Posted September 10, 2011 Author Report Posted September 10, 2011 (edited) How can i do that (Bit of an idiot when it somes to this stuff) i mean the find out what i got Edited September 10, 2011 by Lockwood 1st MRB Quote
0 Dillon 1st MRB Posted September 10, 2011 Report Posted September 10, 2011 Also, are you using the front panel or the rear panel to plug your mic into? What happens if you switch it? Did you build the computer yourself, a friend do it, or was it bought as is from a major manufacturer. The reason I ask these is because sometimes a front panel connector has two options of AC'97 and HDAUDIO. If you have the wrong one installed, it will only start to futz out (on some motherboards) after you have a device plugged into it. If it works good in the rear, you've got a simple solution. But, if not, I definately agree with Magoo that your best bet is with new drivers. If you can take a screenshot of your Device Manager with your audio sections expanded, it will help us find you the right driver. Quote
0 Lockwood Posted September 10, 2011 Author Report Posted September 10, 2011 it does it with both panel's and its a bought from dell (major company) but ive had many mics that ive pluged into the 3.5mm thats why im not understanding it and in the device manager ll it says for sound is "High definition audio device" on all 5 of them Quote
0 Magoo Posted September 10, 2011 Report Posted September 10, 2011 It only happens when your mic is connected? Does it happen when you use other mics? Have you recently updated to win 7? Quote
0 Lockwood Posted September 10, 2011 Author Report Posted September 10, 2011 no i updated to win 7 ages ago, and yes its only this mic i don't have any others, and wont until Christmas Quote
0 Dillon 1st MRB Posted September 10, 2011 Report Posted September 10, 2011 When it crashes, what is the error? Is it Windows that crashes or is it a game? Quote
0 Lockwood Posted September 10, 2011 Author Report Posted September 10, 2011 it shuts my whole computer down Quote
0 Dillon 1st MRB Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 Does it give you an error message? A computer shutdown should never result from a microphone being put in. There are no drivers for it that are specific to the device (at least on 3.5mm). Does it bluescreen on you? If you can get us the error message, there is some more research that can be done. It may even be a device driver issue (more than likely) for your sound device, but we need to be sure. What model is your Dell, so we can find out what sound driver is in it? Another option would be to go to the Dell website.... http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/...;l=en&s=dhs There are three ways to check your device drivers. Give it a shot. Quote
0 Lafy BAR Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 You may want to disable the automatically restart on blue screen option in windows 7 so that you actually see the bluescreen message if that's what's causing the shutdown. You can do that by right clicking on computer, choose properties, click advanced system settings, startup and recovery settings and uncheck automatically restart. If you don't see a bluescreen after making that change then it seems to me like a physical fault with something in the computer. Quote
0 Lockwood Posted September 11, 2011 Author Report Posted September 11, 2011 its not bluescreen it just shuts down like goes black then it turns off, no error no its wierd Quote
0 Lockwood Posted September 11, 2011 Author Report Posted September 11, 2011 update on situation: i installed the latest drivers, and it still shuts down, Quote
0 Magoo Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 Try connecting a spare set of headphones to the mic jack and let us know if they cause your computer to crash too. Quote
0 Yamagata 1st MRB Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 If it's just turning off, you might be shorting your power supply... Quote
0 Lockwood Posted September 12, 2011 Author Report Posted September 12, 2011 (edited) Possibly, but my Tv doesnt turn off thats why i didnt think that, and it doesnt turn off unless i play a game soo, but im at my mums house now and got a computer that doesnt shut down so ill get my dad to look into why thats being wierd. Thanks for all the help Edited September 12, 2011 by Lockwood 1st MRB Quote
0 Dillon 1st MRB Posted September 13, 2011 Report Posted September 13, 2011 If it's just turning off, you might be shorting your power supply... This. If the computer just completely shuts off, there is a short. I'd look at your powersupply being bad. But, there could be bad capacitors on the motherboard, as well. Definately not related to your mic. However, your mic usage is what is letting you know that there is a problem, as a mic and headset draw power from the motherboard. Quote
