Maines :: Summer 2012 Upgrade

Question

Posted

Budget : $500 Dollars

I have two choices for computers that I have found through research. Keep in mind that I have a 20" monitor already.

Choice #1: iBUYPOWER WA501D3 - $498

1. AMD FX-4100 processor - 3.60ghz

2. 8GB DDR3 SDRAM

3. 500GB SATA hard drive

4. NVIDIA GT 520 Series Graphics

Choice #2: iBUYPOWER 579D3 - $459

1. AMD Athlon II X3 440 processor - 3.0ghz

2. 8GB DDR3 SDRAM system memory

3. 500GB SATA hard drive

4. NVIDIA GT 520 Series Graphics

The Basic Question is: is the extra .60ghz really worth the extra $50?

Games Intended : Up to Payday the Heist and Possible Battlefield 3 - and obviously DoD:S, where I still get patchy 30fps spots, but 80-100 average.

Thoughts, Suggestions, Advice? All would be appreciated. I would buy a new TV, since my old one is shit, but then I found these babies ^_^

I'm looking to unload my current cpu and mobo. PM me if you are interested. Phenom II X4 975 and mobo for $150. Fair deal, and I'll cover shipping.

Also, let me try to build you a complete system for cheaper. I'll price it out. What is your overall budget? And what do you already have that we could use for upgrades?

Ok. the 3 bits I have are

1. AMD E2-3200 AMU CPU - 2.4ghz

2. 4GB DDR3 RAM

3. AMD Radeon HD 6370D Graphics

Also, the mail in Maine isn't the best, stuff gets lost too easily here unfortunately.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811129071

Case w/ quality PSU - $89.99

Video Card - $149.99

You could use my pretty good mobo and cpu (I'll send it ups, just like Newegg) - $150. Right now, you'd have to spend ~$220 for an AMD PhII x4 975. Its a 3.6 ghz stock, but will OC to 4ghz.

Re-use your RAM - that'll save you a good amount.

Hard drive - 500 GB (and very, very fast) for $89.99

For the time being, i am keeping an eye on Lafy's option. I can totally afford an extra 30 dollars. If i do get this job at KFC that I applied for, ill be using my college internship for the computer and giving my current cpu to my brother. And Dillon, im currently still thinking of building one, it would just take a couple of days of us in ventrilo to help me find better deals and to put the damn thing together lol :D
