Viruses are not necessarily the main cause network lag spikes, do you share your network with anyone? Constant network activity tends to bog down any connection. Try disconnecting the power from your router for 15 seconds and see if that revives your network. Maybe contact your ISP.

If you still think you've got viruses, try ComboFix, MalwareBytes, and/or SpyBot Search & Destroy.

Check through your startup processes/services, and disable any unnecessary ones. This can be done through the Control Panel -> Administrative tools -> Services.

Be sure to Google a process if you do not know what it is. (just use the name of the process.)

If your computer isn't the cause of your lag spikes, than the only viable option would be your internet connection. Be sure you are the only one in your house using it, or if that's not possible, at least make sure nobody is downloading. As well, be sure to CLOSE (some programs minimize to the tray in the bottom right) programs like Windows Live, skype, etc.

I have 2 roommates in my house that uses the internet at certain points of the day and night. My roommates and I have been sharing the internet for about 9 months now. About a couple of days ago is when I started to get these lag spikes. Is programs running in the background one of the possibilities of having lag spikes? I'm in vent right now if you want me to me about my problems with the lag spikes.

It is possible for background programs to be the source of bad FPS spikes, if your PC is maxing out.

Otherwise, it would be a problem with the network/internet connection.

If you check with your roommates, be sure nobody is making any major downloads or such, it should solve your problem. If it does not, you might want to get in contact with your ISP or landlord about your internet issues. They may be having technical problems with their equipment, servers, or other.
