Motherland*

Actually, as the resident Russian scholar, in the war years the homeland was referred to as both отечество (literally fatherland) and родина (land of birth). The latter is feminine and thus CAN be translated as motherland, but отечество was used in more military contexts so, while both are correct, fatherland is MORE correct :P

Hookers?

I believe that is what he meant. Though, I cannot comment on its relevance.

Furthermore:

Motherland: one’s native land

Fatherland: country of one’s birth

So, provided one chooses to translate a word in a given way, both are technically correct in terms of definition.

I have no special knowledge, nor do I attempt to undermine your education, though I feel it would be more likely to be praising your heritage (your native land) than the place you happened to be born in. (Though in this case, it likely would have been the same place) /opinion
