Interesting NY Times article about a scientific study on sexual orientation.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/29/opinion/...-youre-gay.html

"Using this methodology we identified a subgroup of participants who, despite self-identifying as highly straight, indicated some level of same-sex attraction (that is, they associated “me” with gay-related words and pictures faster than they associated “me” with straight-related words and pictures). Over 20 percent of self-described highly straight individuals showed this discrepancy."

Subconscious techniques? Let's get all Freudian up in here!

Coincidentally, I would like to see the study that supports the "me" homosexual business. How much longer does it take for them to sort it into the correct place? Is it statistically significant? Are there any parts of the test that could confound the results? Since it's the New York Times, they already accept that homophobic people are homosexuals deep at heart, they've had a number of articles that they've touted this before. Not to mention, as the author says in the last paragraph, "It’s important to stress the obvious: Not all those who campaign against gay men and lesbians secretly feel same-sex attractions. But at least some who oppose homosexuality are likely to be individuals struggling against parts of themselves, having themselves been victims of oppression and lack of acceptance." Wasn't that universally accepted before? That some people who don't like homosexuals may be at heart? Look at the members of the Republican party who have been caught at this.

These continuing silly articles and when they raised their subscription fee is when I cancelled my NY Times.

Maybe someone whose university gets them access to download studies can get a copy of this study and the referenced "me" association study and we can find out.

Here's the link, somebody on a university network get us a copy!

I treat gay people the same way I treat religious people. As long as they dont preach about it in front of me I have no problem with them. Actually I feel this way about everyone I meet. If you are going to be an annoying douche who is so self centered you are not able to look at more than one point of view you deserve to get hit by a bus. And Dillon I hope you bring your gas mask b/c I heard Jones does a mean dutch oven.
