So i wanted to talk about the good gaming sales on steam this weekend.

Red Orchestra 2:

Not a bad price for a decent game, but im a little ticked i bought it when it first came out. It wasnt what i expected and nothing compared to RO1. Although i havent played it since then, the new update has rumored to fixed nearly EVERYTHING and make it almost exactly like RO1. Hence why im reinstalling and going to give it a shot. Its decent and realistic and for $10 you cant go wrong. Its a play style that takes some getting used to though so you will die alot.

Civ 5: When this game first came out i wasnt sure what the hype was about. Its now on sale for about $8 so im pondering getting it. I havent tried any of the Civ games so im wondering if anyone here who has played Civ 5 can give me some advice on whether or not i should nab it while its on sale? Is it a good game? bad game? what is it?

Isn't Civ V free for the weekend? You could just try it out :D

I've played a little Civ 4. I generally feel like starting a game of Civ4 is an all-day affair, which generally scares me off from starting a game (even though I'll then fire up DoDS for the rest of the day  )

Can anyone who's played both compare Civ 4 and Civ 5?

Civ 5 is free for the weekend, try it out.

Civ 5 is a large scale turn based strategy game. There is no main storyline, rather you control a faction from the stone age all the way up to modern and futuristic times, deciding policies that affect your government, society, religion, and military. Some people define the Civilization series as "the" strategy games, their in-depth options and long-arching games can sate some of the most insatiable strategy gamers. It's somewhat of a "strategy sandbox," similar to Sins of a Solar Empire in that you control your entire faction, but not a lot of similarities hold up past that.

The changes from Civ 4 to 5 is somewhat of a... simplification while still remaining complex. I hesitate to phrase it like that, since it's not as though they didn't add in a lot more features with Civ 5. What I mean is that they simplified a lot of things to make Civilization more desirable for the casual gaming audience who don't have time for the big show, but the depth is still there for those who want it. Civ 4 used square tiles for movement, 5 goes to hexagons. There's really a lot of differences between the games so I'm not gonna stick out a list. Overall it is the new Civ, and players flock to it.

You'll find, playing multiplayer in an experienced game, that it's very gratifying to roll out tanks when your human opponents and friends are fighting you off with spears and bows.

Go ahead and pick it up. It's great to play... just watch out for the AI- almost all of them are basket cases and are pretty damn annoying. And Gandhi is the most likely AI to use nukes in the game. Just so you know.
