ive been informed my son will be needing a laptop for his summer educational program (mom and Granma set this up im clueless)

If any one of you might have an old laptop not in use and care to donate or offer up very cheaply plz let me know,

what im lookin for is something in the 1.8 to 2 ghz, working DVD/CD drive. wifi builtin would be a plus and simpler for him but i can get a USB dongle if need be.

I have an old IBM Thinkpad - but I don't think it meets your requirements. It's a pretty old machine.

Also, some of the keys (if I remember it is the Backspace & S keys) are missing on the keyboard - right now it's just a 'backup' around the house and it doesn't have built in wireless

If you're really in a bind and just need SOMETHING - you're welcome to it.

well, the wifi i can get around, but the missing keys would be a problem for my son, im tryin to get more info on exactly what he needs.

I'll have to dig it up. It's in one of our closets around here in a laptop case. It's old, the HD is only like 40GB I think or something like that. So again - it really isn't anything flashy!

i know he needs to run XP at min. DVD/CD drive. and will need wifi.. if i need, i can get a usb wifi dongle but wanna try and make this as turn key as posible for him. i wont be near by to administer it in person (he and mom are going to her mothers 6 hrs north of me for a summer vacation/school) in truth the less he has to plug in and unplug, the less he likely to break something. he is a console kid, just stating to get him into the PC but he still doesn't know how to close windows/tabs and end up with 20 of them still open when he calls me for help
