So to further help me condition for Parris Island during the summer of 2014, I just did one of the Insanity workouts, and it totally kicked my ass. It hurts to stand up, sit down, laugh, and lift my arms. At one point during the video the guy was like "Feeling good, guys?" and I yelled back "YES SIR!!" and was like "wait.."

haha but 2 more months of that and I'll finally be close to Marine Corps fit :D :D I'm excited for boot camp. Semper Fidelis.

So, if I wanted to start that program tomorrow, would I need a crazy amount of towels so that the precious carpet does not get drenched?

My fitness level is horrendously low, couldn't even do 5 minutes of a light jog without having the treadmill dripped on.

Yeah, you probably will. :) Not more than me, though, I did it in my basement and left a pool of sweat... Was a challenge getting up the stairs lmao

Both P90X and Insanity are supported by Beach Body. P90x focuses on muscle confusion while Insanity focuses on high velocity workouts. Both are great if you wanna get into the best shape of your life.

Pretty much. And they're near impossible when you're out of shape :) Gotta dig deep

Just started insanity last week. More than anything, my legs just DIE. i have to take alot of breaks cause my legs dont have the endurance for those plyometrics.

Im doing a similar thing Logsdon, trying to use insanity to get me in shape for the next few years before OCS

I have a professional personal trainer who has tried all of these programs.

Be very careful with the as seen on tv stuff. while it may work to some degree, there are definately consequences to over working things intentionally.

He broke it down for me:

1. P90x due to the types of workouts ligament tears and strains tend to be more common among people who are at normal daily activity activity, most of the issues stem from the elastic bands training.

2. Insanity the sole purpose is to wear you out to make you think you are doing something. If you are not already in shape, this program will not work.

Also not everyone with a regular body type will see the same results. It breeds misconceptions to the general public that over working without rest is a good thing, once again muscle pulls, ligament tears and strains, also he risk of fatigue sickness, and or lose of normal blood flow to extremities due to lack of rest are common among people who do normal daily activity.

These statements are from a guy who has helped me shed over 37 lbs since august I am not 215lbs and not fat.

He also is a certified trainer, and nutritionist.

Best way to get fit and stay fit is find a good diet, eliminating soda and crap that has tons of sodium in it.

Also the whole 90ozs of water thing is crap as well, i mean unless you are in a desert at temps of 90 degrees daily and running every day you will never retain or need that much water.

If you want any good suggestions on a good program please let me know, I am not shitting on any of those workouts just restating what i was told.

That's good to know. I think the key to both of these programs is to know your limits. I'm not afraid of resting when I need to during the workouts cause I know one could push themselves too hard. At the same time, lately I've had a personal struggle between wanting to push myself to get the best workout possible and trying to rest per what my body needs.

That said, I think insanity is an amazing cardio workout, I definitely work harder during those 45 mins than I would at a gym or doing a personal routine at home.

Thanks for the heads-up, it's good to know. I was raised with a mentality to say "Don't ever, ever quit, even if it hurts you," but if it's actually going to hurt me and I'm not going to benefit from it, I guess there's no point. I'm already on a strict, military-based diet, so I guess I'll just stick with light jogs and work my way up to PFT minimum requirements. Currently, I'm at 203lbs at about 22% body fat. My goals are to:

1) Run 3 miles in about 20 minutes (28 minimum in the PFT)

2) Be able to do 75 crunches in 2 minutes (50 crunches minimum in the PFT)

3) Be able to do 10 pull-ups (3 minimum in the PFT)

Once I can do this, all I really have to worry about is the CFT, which is a combination of various actions to test combat fitness.

Just started insanity last week. More than anything, my legs just DIE. i have to take alot of breaks cause my legs dont have the endurance for those plyometrics.

Uh that's not crap, it's science. The reason you drink a lot of water is to flush out fat that you ingest. What water does is filter your body, the purpose of drinking a lot of water a day is to flush out the fats from foods you eat. If you don't have enough water than the fats you eat just get stored in the body.

Also you have to replenish sodium levels if you are working out I believe, since your body is losing water and sodium, replacing only one without the other is just as bad if not worse for you.

What The guy was saying was that you don't need that much water 90oz is excessive, most people in training over due that entirely and drink approx. 191ozs which is entirely too much to hold. The best bet for anyone is the old piss test. If its light like yellow gatorade or almost clear you have enough water in you, if it gets to the orange unless you are taking vitamin B supplements you should drink some water.

Water with every meal I get Parker and you are absolutely correct it helps flush the system of fats and excess lipids, but what i was stating is also fact too much water does not good, everyone is different, and everyone's body can handle different content, If you wanna dose yourself with water go ahead, It does not work for me but it might work for someone else. I have probably close to 80ozs of plain water a day, plus some sort of Fruit Juice- which probably if you think about it has water in it as well. Oh and my juice is from my own juicer, got one of those frank lelaine power juicers.

But the truth is everyone can filter different amounts of any crap in their systems, and there is no one way to do anything.

there is no universal statement above.

Oh and to be a smartass- I am drinking 16.9 oz of water right now

Umm if you're trying to be a smartass, it's not coming through.

Stone, people always have a different opinion when it comes to fitness. Just because your trainer tells you something doesn't mean he's the all knowing God of fitness. Athletes, trainers, coaches and nutritionists normally all have different theories about staying fit or losing weight. Now I could be wrong on this but I do believe the recommended daily water intake is 65 oz (that's just for for the average joe who isn't trying to stay fit). I was curious so I looked this up, in the U.S. the RDI is actually 125 oz but that can vary depending on a number of factors like you said. However, there is a difference between drinking 65 oz and 90 oz, the majority of losing calories from the body happens in the bathroom. Drinking more water makes you take a piss more often and removes calories from the body. Also, drinking more water helps with moving food through your digestive system and burns calories just the same.

Before I blew out my knee playing hockey I had coaches, friends, trainers, and nutritionists telling me some conflicting stuff. Don't just get your information from one source because what works for him may not work for you. I can tell you for certain that drinking 90 oz over 65 oz of water most certainly helps.

Going to after i get my college degree. Major in military history minor in russian

Haha, nice. If I make it into the Marine Corps, I want to earn my brass before going through OCS. It's a family thing, we don't lead unless we know we've earned it through hard work (battle experience in the military).

I can tell you for certain that drinking 90 oz over 65 oz of water most certainly helps.

So... Work out a lot and constantly drink water (as I'm working out), but not TOO much?

I so wish that was true for me Parker, I shit so much lol

Yes it is true, but just because you shit a lot doesn't mean you're going to lose weight. You need to exercise and maintain a healthy diet.

So... Work out a lot and constantly drink water (as I'm working out), but not TOO much?

Yup. The amount of water you drink really depends on your body type, but I would say your minimum should be 65 oz a day. How much more you drink is up to you.

I agree with you as well. I don't think the guy is 100% right either. I have found my own things that work over the 18 years i have been working out.

Steroids. They don't pop up on your standard 9 point drug tests the military administers.

1. Protein

2. Water

3. Creatine

4. Diet

5. Proper rest

6. Multi-vitamins.

7. Healthy calories

Those should be your best friends.

P.S. I'm too lazy to read the argument between you girls but when it comes to working out and water intake, muscles are 75% water, so you need alot of water, but not to the point you get hypernutremia. I drink about a gallon of milk and a gallon of water a day on my training regiment and it's never failed me. Everything in moderation.
