Well to be fair Parker the original wasn't very close to the short story it was based on but still it was a good movie. From what I heard this supposedly follows the short story a lot closer and who knows. I am with you with the movie industry making unnecessary remakes but the original Total Recall is very dated in the 80's (not a knock on it that 80's style is awesome). Will it be crap? Maybe but ever the optimist maybe we will be surprised.

So, by your logic, every movie made in the 80's should get redone? You could say everything before 1995 is a little dated, but that doesn't mean it calls for a remake. These were the movies I grew up watching so for me it's like they're remaking my childhood. Yes this movie might not suck, but the idea as a movie has been done before (IMO not that long ago) so why not think of making something new and fresh? Money, money, money.

Jurassic Park

Back to the Future

Alien

Terminator

The Matrix

Star Wars

These are examples of sci-fi movies that were liked so much that they made sequels. I bet you there were a few scripts that could have been huge if they ever made it to the big screen but because of greedy little douche bags who thought it wouldn't make enough money, they scrapped them.

I'm not saying every movie before 1995 and before needs to be redone. There are movies that are timeless and don't need to be redone and that's what I hate when Hollywood remakes them (e.g. Nightmare on Elm Street, John Carpenter's The Thing [also a remake]) where as there are movies that scream the decade that they were made in and could have been better. Like I said before the original didn't follow the short story very well and this one seems to be more true to it and it looks interesting and it has a good cast. By the way Parker we are both 24 so I too grew up with 80's and 90's movies so I really do understand your concern as they are my own

Guys, there is no such thing as creativity anymore. EVERYTHING is based on something else, or it has been done before. Its not just hollywood either, even if they are the biggest perpetrators. All star wars was is rehashing of classic stereotypes and symbols retold in space.

Star Wars wasn't a movie based on a book or a remake of another movie, it was new and fresh. The argument that it was rehashing classic stereotypes is irrelevant, everything mankind produces is based on what knowledge we have of the universe which includes fiction and reality. Hell I even give points to Avatar because it is based on an original screenplay by James Cameron, although it contains some elements from other science fiction works, it is still very much original and creative. On the other hand, this Total Recall remake is not new and shows a lack of creativity and originality from Hollywood.

Am I gonna watch this film? Probably. Will I like it? Maybe. Does that make it creative? No.

Actually, it was inspired by and used bits of a Kurosawa film called Throne of Blood. Sorry if this blows your mind again. :)

Personally I wouldn't mind if Abrams rebooted the Star Wars franchise like he did for Star Trek. Wait... I sense a disturbance in the Force. It was as if a million Star Wars fanboys all screamed at the same time.

Quick question:

How would you feel if instead of calling this new film "Total Recall" they called it "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale" ?
