Hey guys, so I have suffered with Insomnia for as long as I can remember. I cant take sleeping meds. Ive tried, they just give me terrible nightmares and I would wake up 90% of the time sweaty and someplace else in my house. (i sleep walk on some pills for what ever reason.) I was wondering if any of you knew ways of getting to bed. Because ive been 2 days without sleep now and its begging to become an issue.

Here is the deal- I am the absolute insomniac- or how about this i never sleep. I work 12-8am get home watch my son till my wife gets home from work- usually i have to cook dinner that is about 7-8pm. If I am lucky daily i will get about 2 hours of sleep or none at all.

Ok so when do i sleep- well the weekend- and it is a very difficult thing to do being i don't sleep often so my body automatically assumes I don't need serotonin at that time- things that I have tried that have work, some better then others so here is a the list of best to worst.

1. Eating good healthy meals during the day and calming tea of your choice at night

2. warm shower and sound machine/ aka any relaxing music I like Buddhist drone like music low soothing tones

3. Melatonin- natural pill not going to make you all crazy

4. lavender bath or sleeping mask if you are ok with girly crap

5. mentholated bath with the above added in, if you have a spa tub like me the jets make it interesting.

6. chamomile tea

7. nyquil- jk attempt the warm milk thing- never worked for me but i have heard it does actually work

When you are preparing to go to sleep, you need to allow your brain to "wind down". Specifically, get rid of any electronics devices around you that make noise, give off light, sound, etc.

Don't use your phone. Don't even bring it with you.

Get off your computer, turn off your T.V., find something else to do for at least 30 mins or so before you attempt sleeping. Maybe have a snack.

Couple drops of Rescue Remedy (found in natural health stores), and a couple Melatonin pills

Both natural herbal items, both made to calm your nerves and reduce stress to help you sleep.

Heck I've given them to my dogs during storms when they start to freak out and it helps them settle and sleep and has no harmfully side effects. My vets even suggesting and using them now.
