The game is literally turning into that south park episode.. Next we will see them playing with balloons and bras. The main reason (I am just venturing a guess) is that they want to try and prevent more injuries. I can see how the kick off is 'dangerous' because you are running a full sprint into about 4 or more blockers which could fuck up even the strongest man's body. However, the sport is all about risk, its why they are paid the big bucks to go out there and give it all they got. They already made the kick off less risky with the placement of the ball being moved up 5 or 10 yards (can't really remember if that's what it was). I love kick off, personally I believe that it's the best part of the game seeing Percy Harvin run past the opponent and waltz into the endzone like a boss. Ironic though because as I am talking he was placed on the injury reserve that was caused by a kick off return if I remember correctly.

I don't like this idea, however I can see the reasoning behind what they are trying to do. I would much rather watch my favorite players than seeing them on the bench because of some injury. But like I said before, football is all about the risk and they take a risk every time they step onto the field.

I think this is pretty stupid. Like Click said, the game is about taking risks. I took that risk in high school. I held the defesnse back, but in the end I caused nerve damage in my right arm after i broke my elbow falling on some dudes helmet. I dont regret it.

Oh to make you guys cheer up, or get mad:

I've always thought of football as the sport of slowly killing your opponents' bodies, so if they change this it won't really be football anymore.

These athletes, many of whom have relied on the sport as one of the only avenues to get them out of low-income and crime-filled neighborhoods and environments, have chosen to pursue football to support their families instead of turning to crime or slaving away at multiple minimum-wage jobs for the rest of their lives.

They should suffer the consequences, not the bloodthirsty fans who value the game more highly than the players lives.

It is a personal decision to put ones self in harms way for money.

This. Football is a violent sport, and all players know the risks. I think trying to take the intentional injury causing out of the game is a good thing, and additional rules for player safety are a good thing in the end.

But at the same time, they are turning the game into something for powder puffs. Receivers dont like to get hit, so they've added additional rules to protect them. Same for QBs. The old guard guys, such as Troy Aikman, have difficulty agreeing during broadcats that certain plays are penalties. I cant tell you how many times ive heard him say "well in todays NFL thats just not acceptable, but thats the kind of thing i expected everytime i went onto the field" (or something to that effect)

Defense is my favorite part of football, and they keep throwing on new rules for "players safety" that are destroying defenders ability to play the game. Guys do'nt even know anymore what hits are legal or illegal, and they get fined for doing what they've been doing for years (Ed Reed anybody?) Some of these guys are shoe ins for the hall of fame precisely BECAUSE they play smash mouth football, and now at the ends of their careers they're getting penalized for doing what they've been doing for 10-15 years, really more than that because most of these NFL guys have been playing football for 20+ years.

These are the same people who think there ought to be a franchise in LONDON. Mind you, Los Angeles has been without a team for almost 20 years! 2 Hockey teams, 2 Baseball teams, 2 Soccer teams, 2 Basketball teams... NO football. But they want a franchise in LONDON?!
