I was watching the show Doomsday Preppers on the National Geographic channel and was wondering if some of you guys are actually getting preppared for a "crash of our society" scenario. That could be a worldwide shortage of gaz, a crash of the communication system or an electro magnetic pulse (EMP). Even, why not, a zombie apocalypse as we like to play it. Like do you store food or have any plan to either leave your city/country or stay barricaded at home.

What would you do in such situation?

I don't actually prepare anything but as me and some of my friends say, "we got guns, we got a truck, that might be enough to last a while".

Plus as I do a lot of outdoor stuff like trekking, camping, mountain biking and all that stuff, I already have a lot of stock to cope in a lot of situations that don't weight much and are easy to pack. Items such as a small axe, small burner and small cooking kit, a leatherman knife, a compact and good quality small tent, small inflatable mattress, compact but hot sleeping bag, a fishing rod, hot clothes that pack very small in compression bags, a compass all kind of usuefull small things like that. So my plan, if I had one, would be to go away in the woods. That would be easier to get acces to food, stock to build a shelter (or find an empty shack), water, and stuff to burn. Plus I'd highly prefer get isolated from the sometimes hysterical masses.

Well I do not have a big plan, but when it comes to doomsday kinda shit, it seems like the first few days are the most dangerous. So it is always a good idea to sit tight and weather the storm for a few days until the mass confusion/looting/fighting or whatever is over. Although that only makes sense for zombies or gas shortage possibly. If it was a virus, probably wouldn't work very well except for trying to reduce the possibility of contracting the virus :P.

Hahahaha, I watched a couple episodes too. It was pretty amusing.

I love the people who are like " oh we spent, $400,000 on this underground bunker because we know its going to end "

Or the "we have 10,000 rounds of ammunition, 20 guns and enough toilet paper to last 10 years."

i think most people think it will be a zombie apocalypse scenario end of the world... but no i do not think the world will be destroyed i think the predictions are real but not that the world is gonna go under, it just seems so unlikely. If something would happen right now or in 7 days or on the 21st the scientists will know it and do something about it.

there's a military barracks about 5/10 mins away from my house, i would hope that they would respond pretty quickly (e.g. they have weapons, vehicles and ammo on site) if not, then i'm sure there are ways to get in and hide in an APC or a tank or some shit

All you really need is enough to where if you have to leave, you can and survive on the road. Sitting tight the first few days is definitely wise. Especially if you do end up staying, you want to mark your grounds and make sure nobody hurts your family. Also if there is a gas shortage, find stuff to trade like water, food or ammo. Nothing wrong with being prepared.

I've got a couple weeks of preserves in the basement, and freezers usually stocked.

Got a gas generator which will run my furnace enough to stay warm. Yard is secure with a 6' fence all around it, and truck is 4x4.

Once the first few days of nuttyness goes around, I'd then venture out with a few close friends and begin our take over of the area setting up a localize government run by us, we have enough military buds locally we'd be set for force as required, defense as needed. Have a great natural spring water supply in out town, so water is good. In the middle of the prairies so food sources are plenty.

So yea, pretty much prepared if required.

But the mistake everyone is making with this "mayan prediction" is that the world is going to end. Thats not what they predicted, they predicted the end of an age and the birth of a new one, considering were in what they considered the third age I'd tend to think were good. Their beginning of the third age was basically their "golden era" height of their society till the spanish wiped it out with disease and mayhem. Heck if they left well enough alone, we'd probably have already colonized Mars.
