Didn't get to watch the Pacquiao/JMM fight Saturday and I just watched it last night, but holy shit balls, did not see that coming.

Juan-Manuel-Marquez-KO-Manny-Pacquiao.jp

Anyone else think this is awful for the sport that Manny lost Saturday?

Even if you don't follow boxing, Manny/Mayweather was the fight everyone and their grandma's wanted to see and now its probably never going to happen because of this fight.

Where does Manny go from here? Fifth fight with JMM? Manny needs to retire, I still think he has what it takes to be one of the best P4P fighters in the world but he has way, way, way, to much things going on outside of the ring. He is a congressman, actor, singer, and entertainer.

Where does Mayweather go from here? He has been released from jail and stated he wants to fight two times next year, does he fight Canelo? A rematch with JMM now? (Even though Mayweather had his best performance against JMM, total ass whopping).

Ok I just saw this thread and have to comment.

I watched the fight, it was really intense all the way up until Manny got knocked out. If you're a true boxing fan then you would have known that this was not a surprising win, Marquez has always given Manny a hard time and their fights have always been close. Eventually he was gonna win one. As for the Manny/Mayweather fight, well that's not going to happen for a long time and not because of Manny's latest fight. Rumors are that these two are gonna start a promotion company together through 50 cent. 50 and Mayweather are like brothers and have always wanted to have a promotion company, so what better way to get a great success than to have that company promote a Manny/Mayweather fight? The thought is that they are gonna wait a little longer in their careers before they make the move to face each other. If you want my opinion, Mayweather is the best boxer in the world and would win in a fight against Pacquiao.

Pacquiao is past his prime and Mayweather is up there too, but there are rising stars that are unknown to people outside the boxing world. For instance, there's Victor Ortiz and Andre Ward. Both are in their 20's and have outstanding records as of right now. Ortiz is 25 yrs old, rated a welterweight, and is 29-4 with 22 KOs. Ward is 28 yrs old, rated a middleweight, and is 26-0 with 14 KOs. Once Manny and Floyd are done, these guys will become the new faces of boxing so don't be worried about boxing's future.

I just watched the Pacquiao fight as well, and what can I say... I was sad to see him lose. He's a great fighter, I love his style. Mexican boxers are tough as nails though, lots of chin and heart. Manny has the more dynamic style, more finesse and speed. Marquez caught him with a little timing changeup and it was definitely brilliant. Up until that point it was definitely one of the most exciting bouts to date.

I'd like to think pacman will fight again though, maybe after a good break.

As a martial artist, I have infinite respect for these guys, they train like madmen. That said, I still see so many limitations to boxing. The defensive game is all about moving the feet, covering to absorb blows, and moving the head and body. There's very little use of the arms. Few slips and parries.

50 Cent broke away from that promotion, sold all his "Team Money" merchandise and him and Mayweather are no longer on speaking terms.

I also highly, highly doubt Pacquiao and Mayweather would ever go into buisness with each other, Pac-man sued Mayweather for like 100k because of the steroid comments he was making.

I wouldn't mind seeing Martinez fight Ward before a super fight with Mayweather.
