Resolved - DoD:S buttons not responding

Question

Posted

Name: Parker, B.

Rank: Lt. Col.

Type of issue: Steam

Brief Description of Issue: Ever since a recent update to DoD:S, my in-game buttons are not responding correctly. For example, I can't click the "join server" or "refresh" buttons. They don't seem to bevel when I click on them. I've re-installed DOD:S, I've verified cache, and I don't use any custom content.

I'll have to look more into it if this is not the case, but it could be a corrupted winui.gcf file. Try deleting it (or renaming it) in the SteamApps folder, forcing Steam to download it again.

Source: I had this problem in December, this fixed it...for a month. Next update messed it up again, tried this fix and it did nothing, then the update after that fixed it.

: ( Hope someone else has an idea! From what I've looked at, there were a couple people who had similar problems this month (not with DOD:S though, TF2 and MW) and a Valve tech just said it was reported as a bug (i.e. no fix yet). I'll keep looking, but if anyone else knows anything, chime in

I spent about two hours this afternoon attempting to work this problem out. Doesn't appear to be a client-side issue (which is a mystery to me, as not everybody has the problem), and does not appear to be a client bug (eg. the clientregistry.blob fixes).

My best guess, a bugged release by Valve. Because I have no idea which file is problematic, I only hope Valve will be able to do something about it.

This isn't a bug, valve did this on purpose. They did this to stop the spamming of the join game button, refresh was the part they screwed over. But the join game part is now supposed to be like that

It is only a problem on DOD:S, and you can still spam the button by clicking it (Whereas before you could spam it with the enter key, or spacebar which is often quicker).

Additionally, a similar problem is on the in-game demo editor, in that case resulting in buttons not working at all.

After further investigation, I decided to post a steam support ticket to get to the bottom of this issue.

After almost 2 full weeks of waiting for a response, the Steam support staff have finally gotten back to me. They confirmed that it is a problem on their end. They claim that they will be investigating the issue, and will take the appropriate action to resolve this.

They did not offer a time-line as to when this problem will be resolved.

As there is no further support to be offered to this ticket, I will close it. Feel free to post any other problems you may have in the future, and we will be happy to assist you.
