If you have an hour to kill, watch this 3 part documentary from Vice, I found it interesting. Vice founder Shane Smith managed to get into North Korea after a year and half of trying and is witness to the craziness of this hermit nation.

North Korea's regime is all about its propoganda and brainwashing its population into believing what their leaders want them to believe. They have a large, but virtually untested military force, their economy is shit, they have people starving to death from widespread poverty, and their leader is living in luxury buying tons of foreign products. I hope that the world teaches them a lesson and shuts them up, because they are just trying to scare everyone into loosening their grip on the economy or give relief aid and get enough to keep living before doing it again. I'm actually learning about the concept of Nuclear Deterrance which was used in the Cold War, and if North Korea truly does care about maintaining their power as a state, they will not do anything as rash as actually firing a nuke on a country. However many nukes they have, they do not have as many as the U.S. or any other country they could fire them on I doubt. So in short, I think North Korea is just doing a bunch of prick-waving to try and make them appear big to both their own people and the wider world.

Lets see so far, Defensive operatiosn are taking place currently on the Korean Penisula, the North has invalidated the 1953 truce, U.N. Sanctions have been passed by the entire security council including China, and North Korea has threated a Nuclear Strike on the U.S.

Yeah, that's why I hate most news networks, I just watch em to see what is happenning and make up my own mind about it. CNN may want to keep us in a climate of fear, but at least most of it isn't bullshit like FOX is. I don't even know how the fuck that channel can even call itself a news station its Torie, Conservative, and Republican propoganda using world events to forward it, the whole lot of it. Of course, those guys are the extreme, CNN has a liberal lean no matter how much they try to claim they're imparital. So, I just take everything with a grain of salt and discern what I think is true based off what I know. Hopefully you all do the same.

As for KWII, I think it'll happen and we'll see both Koreas unified in our lifetime. This time it wouldn't be anywhere near as serious though now that the Soviets are gone and North Korea has successfully chased off its only flimsy ally China. As soon as North Korea strikes that match, I wager we'll see Chinese, American, and who knows how many other nation's soldiers charge in and destroy NK's illusion of grandeur. Or the U.S. can just send a sub with one MIRV and level all of their major cities at once. Not even that, they just have to eliminate any AA defences they might have and just bomb them conventionally.

Plus when North Korea actually sends out statements saying, "Set fire the White House which is the center of all evil" you can't really spin that any other way.

I think North Korea is doing what many other struggling autocracies have done in the past: creating a sense of panic and urgency among its own people to distract them from internal crisis and galvanize them. Stalin's panic in the 1930s consisted of similar tactics, systematically purging party stalwarts to make sure that nobody felt safe and everyone felt threatened by a nefarious but undefined other. This is what, in large part, allowed the soviet union to industrialize on such a large scale and with such speed. Kim Jong Un has all the brutality of Stalin, but none of the brains so his situation is more akin to that of the military junta that ruled Argentina in the late 70s and 80s. Facing economic stagnation, unemployment and an increasingly angry populace, the Junta invaded the Falklands, which rallied the people in a pointless war that kept the Junta in power for years longer than it would have.

War might come eventually, but it will be short and decisive. I imagine this kind of posturing is all we'll see for the near future.

Course they will and it isn't because they have balls but because their fucking insane. N. Korea will do anything to get what it wants and if launching the missiles give them some kind of attention then they have achieved there goal.

i doubt it, they're batshit crazy but they are ultimately into self-preservation. if they shoot off one missile, they know they are going to get destroyed. if they try to attack SK or any of the other surrounding countries, they would almost definitely fail - their troops have little to no combat experience, they probably have pretty low morale and would give up quite quickly and not have enough will to fight in the first place. they are not so stupid as to not know this (some of them might not care, the idiots in power for instance). I do hope that it's just same old same old though. too much fighting going on atm

Yes, but you have to appreciate that the population has been brainwashed by decades of propaganda. The reality is, they MAY launch their missiles, but they will fire them into the ocean which won't provoke a military response from Japan, SK or the USA.
