Name: Tim Brown

Rank: GySgt

Type of issue: (Software, Hardware, Steam, Not sure)Phone? I don't know.

Brief Description of Issue: A good friend wrote to me this morning about an issue with her Android ZTE. It stopped working (spontaneously; she said she didn't get it wet, hadn't downloaded anything in a long time. "It literally just started shutting off and on, and just does that non stop if i turn it on now; it keeps doing the sound it makes when it turns on but never turns on; like, repeatedly; it's like on a weird loop

nothing warranted it".)

She's trying to get the data off of it. She got Stellar Phoenix, and she says "I was told to download this program called "Stellar Phoenix" which I did~ but it looks like it only retrieves data from the computer Hard Drive, and doesn't give me an option to retrieve from the USB when I try to plug the cell in". Now, I know nothing about Androids, so I told her I'd see if anyone I know knows anything. She's a touring musician and I guess this phone had a lot of important data that she desperately needs.

She never backed up the data (said she was waiting for a compatible program with her Mac that never came) and was told by the phone store that a) the store itself can't help, and B) she can send it back to Sprint and get it fixed, but all data would likely be wiped.

Anyone know anything about Androids? Or data recovery of them? Or a program that will recognize the phone when plugged in as opposed to just a backup? I'm researching it a bit myself, but figured I'd post here in case someone knew something : ) Any possible info you have will help! Thanks!

Fromwhat i rememberwhen this happened to me was two fold.

1 she bricked the device by accident downloading a bad app or caused battery to go bad have her check her battery for a pink block where there should be a white one on the battery.

2. Device data will almost certainly be wiped if screen does not come on and dies the on off thing a ton. The people at my phone store state take battery out check for defects if nothing. Levae battery out for 10 mins. Put back in. Hold the power button down for ten seconds and while it is turning on pull the battery. It causes it to reset the operating system.

Unfortunately what you describe is similar to a bios update failure. Bricked device which almost always mean you will either hage to wipe the phone with bareky anything recoverability. Recvery programs are very tricky and typically impossible to do from a none tech savvy person side.

I will ask my buddy and give anymore insight if i find any

So on the advice from Lafy (THANKS LAFY), I told her to try pushing the volume-up button and the power button together, and voila, she says this:

I did click the volume down button before and it still wouldn't turn on right~ but then tried the volume up button with the startup button together and then it gave these options: "Reboot system now" ; "Apply update from sd card" "wipe date/factory reset" and "wipe cache partition"~ So, which one does what and what should I do...??

I'm waiting for Lafy to get back to his comp to tell her what else to do, but I figured I'd post this here in case someone has a similar problem in the future, OR if someone else knows where to take it from here. :>

The fact that it enters the bootloader (what she described) means that it is just a software issue, nothing wrong with the hardware. If she had a recent backup of her data I would say to just factory reset the phone and be done with it. Because she wants to get the data off, the process is more involved.

If you want detailed instructions for doing the backup and restore of the device I'll try to find some for you.
