This is funny, but the author should know April fools was a month ago. In all honesty I'd take this as seriously as I take the reports that Bigfoot was spotted in Vegas marrying Nixon and Elvis.

I thought that happened ? Not sure about the validity of this though Visca , If it were in a newspaper or news channel (excludes fox news) then I might be more inclined to believe it.

Proselytizing is very different from "sharing your faith". Besides, the blog this is sourced from has a distinct "Christian-fundamentalist" vibe, and the author of the article denies the separation of Church and State in the constitution in the last part of his assessment, so I'm not exactly sure how accurate it is.

EDIT: Apparently it refers to all faiths and only concerns proselytizing (So going out and trying to convert someone), as opposed to counselling someone who came to the chaplain for help.

As far as I know, Christianity has never been illegal in the military to hold as a belief. I guess using the military as an arm to use in promoting and converting people to your faith may be illegal in the military, but I'm not sure how big of an issue that would be considering that its not really something that the military can control in terms of the spread. Maybe they don't want people spending all their time preaching or performing service rather than do their duties as a soldier. Or perhaps it because they want to uphold a self-image as not being an overly religious force, I don't know.

I don't see how christianity could be illegal, they ask you to state your religion on your dog tags for gods sake, so that way they can give you the proper prayer or funeral rights when you die. the military is usually pretty tolerant of religion, as long as you don't let it get in the way, at least from what i've seen

Now I'm not religous by any means even if I am a supposed Christian and find it very detrimental to the advancement of humanity, but the irony of a Jewish lawyer named Michael Weinstein taking an extreme stance on this one particular religion is hilarious to me. All because he was most likely a shitbag back in the service or has taken jokes way too seriously and has been holding a grudge. Petty high school reunion type stuff.

And for my professional opinion: Thats an entertaining article of fiction.

From what I've heard, haven't researched it yet so don't hold me too it, they're eliminating that particular information on the dog tags.

It looks to be an overreaction about proselytising being illegal (which it is under some law, I think, can't remember).

the problem here is that some people seem to understand that they cannot use a war to push a faith. these idiots may think it's ok to (for instance) go around a warzone, handing out bibles to the local populace trying to convert them. Some wankers decide that an appropriate thing to do is try to promote their faith off the back of a war. that is what is wrong. people can hold their own damn beliefs, just don't push them on other people - especially if those other people are living in a country you are occupying

Some wankers decide that an appropriate thing to do is try fight for the people who cannot or will not fight for themselves. that is what is wrong. people can live their own way of life according to their religion, just don't push extremism on other people - especially if those are the same people you want to lead through a reformation of radical ideals.

I will not stand for the tyrannical facist correction of my grammar.

there are problems all round, but your and our forces shouldn't be pushing their religious ideals on the local populace. the Taliban can still go fuck themselves though

Where are you getting your information from? Last time I checked we were dropping JDAM's and putting 5.56 into the "local" populace, not dropping King James Bibles and soaking them with holy water squirt guns.

I wasn't going to mention the shooting of the locals, and all the drone strikes etc. this is about the religious evangelism not the lead-giving practices of our armies
