Question

Name: Kyle Kabasares

Rank: SgtMaj.

Type of issue: Not sure

Brief Description of Issue: Whenever I try saving my smoothed demos, I end up getting this message: "Must have smoothing selection active". The smoothed demo doesn't appear in my library of demos for playback. I don't know whether or not it's related to the recent demo issue we're having but I've been getting this message since I first tried about 3 weeks ago.

These problem's could be cause by many thing's. It could be that just some of the files that it uses could be corrupt and or are missing some files.I would try to verify game cache and or do what kirk said and look at the link and follow its steps.

are you clicking reload before you start?

have you successfully smoothed demos in the past?

have you tried different demos? (from different servers and/or different computers)

1. Yes

2. No

3. Yes

I have been following smooth tutorials precisely and I've double, triple, quadruple checked to make sure I haven't missed a step.

I have spent about 2 hours every day trying to find something new on this issue for the last 2 days. Everything i come up with is pretty much a how to guide not a oh crap its broke. Ill continue to research but in the mean time i would try and submit a ticket with valve to see if they have any fixes.

Just as verification, since you say it is your first time using the tool, please verify that the following (taken from the valve tools wiki) is accurate for the steps you took;

To work with the smoother, you need to have an active selection. To select a part of the current camera track for modification, fill in the "Start Tick" and "End Tick" fields and press "Select". This tick range is now your active selection and the selected samples are now shown in yellow. Click the Show Original button and the camera will follow the path of the selected samples.

It sounds like you are inputting an invalid tick range for the demo smooth, or not pressing "select" after typing in the range.
