I have a 2008 toyota matrix and this morning while trying to start it the car made a loud CLANK and wont start. Whenever I turn the key it makes a little bit of noise but doesn't really do much. I don't think it's the battery because the lights radio and doors still operate. Any suggestions?

It sounds like your battery honestly, if it isn't getting enough power to turn the starter motor it would sound like how you are describing it. Either that or your starter motor is jammed and all you gotta do to fix that is get a wrench and bang on your starter a bit. The battery will almost always have enough power to run the lights, like if you leave your lights on the battery will dwindle down and the lights will still be on but your vehicle won't start.

as everyone has already said its probably the battery however it could be a bad starter. have someone hit the starter with a block of wood while you try and crank it. no im not joking thats how you tell.

Check the oil and post back what it is at. There is a possibility your engine has seized up.

Also make sure you refill the headlight fluid every 6 months. You don't want them to overheat.

the battery is your problem and if you run it today and everything runs fine after word and you try to start it tomorrow and has the same problem it might be your alternator. If you don't know what a alternator is it is what keeps your battery charged wile it is running.

If the battery is good and functioning but always dead it could be the alternator, the thing that charges the battery when the cars on.

Toyota Vehicles have made that "wurring" noise since 1990 atleast (when I bought my first vehicle).

Sorry for chiming in real late on this topic, but I that sound is you alternator failing!I would bring it in and have that fixed, before you have to buy another expensive battery!

I used to do a lot of work on Hondas and Toyotas back when fast and furious was a thing in NY!

I assure you the sound is the alternator trying to do its job but is starting to go bad. Don't wait till it does!
