Ideas of re-opening the Media Staff Office are great but they are also naive. These illusions of grandeur are masking the fundamental fact that you need a commitment from, not one, but several people. I don't want you to think I'm trying to stop it before it begins, I'm honestly glad to see there is some interest in that office but some is not enough. You need someone who is committed to doing the layout every month, you need editors who will proof read all submitted articles as soon as they are posted, you need writers who make their deadlines and follow given directions, and you need an editor-in-chief who will fill in everything that needs to be done in order to publish a decent newsletter. With all of that you're looking at:

  • 1 Editor-in-Chief
  • 2 Editors
  • 4+ Writers
  • 1 Layout Editor

And they all have to commit to doing their jobs properly for several months otherwise it's not worth re-opening the office for 4 or 5 months. The layout editor is the hardest to find, it requires the most skill and the most work. Not only do they have to take your finished product and make it fit perfectly on a page, but they have to fill that page with pictures (which need precise re-sizing) and extras that will make the page not look empty or too full. Getting writers to respect the word count given to them is also hard to do because eventually they stop paying attention to it and write as much (or as little) as they want, which in turn makes the layout editor's job even harder.

Bottom line - you need several people who are willing to commit to publishing a QUALITY looking newsletter for several months otherwise it ain't worth re-opening.

A few memeber including myself tried to get things rolling. Things fell apart very quickly. If people are intrested maybe we could give it a try. With that being said, if we have people interested then maybe we could try.

I have been talking to 1 or 2 people about it and we all seem quite interested. When I come back from Pittsburgh this weekend, I will go ahead and throw some ideas out there to a motivated few.

The hardest thing to get is a Layout editor, it is a hard, rather soul crushing, tedious job. I will volunteer to write for the newsletter though. I just didn't have the time a few months ago.

I had expressed interest in submitting articles last winter right before the newsletter collapsed, would still be interested. Let me know.

Use to run the newsletter way way back in my school days (15+ years ago now), did editing, proof reads, layout etc, will be a bit rusty but will assist in the other areas as I can as well. As well as one of my previous companies quarterly newsletters, where I gather input from senior management as well as complete editorial and layout.

Good to see so many interested people. Like Quarterman said, Candy has to submit some kind of trial layout before anything can happen. Thinking ahead we should probably have a meeting.

Well I approached Mullaney to do the layout work as well, she seemed very excited to do it. I'm not sure if Candy still has the availability to do it but I haven't talked to him about it in awhile.

I will get in contact with them both sir. If we could have two people who could do the layout work the better. I know there is a spot for only one in the office. Would be good to know that we could have a back up if ever needed. Keep one has a writter. Like I said ill get in contack with both.

Anyone interested in becoming an editor? Looking for at least 2 people.

This means you will be looking over all the War Correspondents work. You will have to read and re-read the work to find any grammar mistakes. You will have to stay on top of the work load. The first month of opening the newsletter will mean you will have extra assignments to proof read. Then there will be some assignments that will need to be done within a week. It won't be an easy job. People I am messaging right now are;

Reis 1st MRB

Mullaney 1st MRB

J. Anderson 1st MRB

Viktor 1st MRB

Gardiner 1st MRB

Candy 1st MRB

Takel 1st MRB

If there is anyone else who thinks they have what it takes to be an editor, either pm me asap or reply to this post.
