Gaming Headsets????

I am looking into purchasing a gaming headset as a Christmas present for myself, but I don't really know anything about them. I'm looking to spend from $50-150. Please help!

Before Christmas I was looking for an excuse to get a new headset, like something with true surround sound, but everything that I looked at was pretty expensive or didn't seem to have good build quality. I have been pretty happy with the Creative Fatality headset that I have in terms of stereo sound and the mic. The comfort level is very high on these because the ear pads are oval shaped and are cloth. I have not found headphones to match the comfort of these, and let me tell you I wear them for many hours. The crazy thing is that most head phones these days are square or circle in shape which does not match the human ear! So for now I am sticking with the Fatality and would highly recommend them.

Wonderful soundstage so you can hear exactly where people are. I find sound much easier in Counter-Strike than DOD:S though. Not much bass but then that is preferable for gaming.

My last two headsets were Logitech g35's absolutely love them, comfortable to wear for hours on end, programable buttons on them so you can mute/voice morph/etc with them, volume control built in, auto mute mic when you raise it up. 7.1 surround sound, nice and clear audio.

Bad part is turns out dogs really like to chew on them........

Well all this talk has me interested again. I found this ROCCAT Kave headset which has true 5.1 sound with separate speakers for each channel versus the simulated surround sound of others. I may be tempted on this one.

I have been using Razer Carcharias for years now and I really love them. I have only had to replace them once because of sound cutting out on one side but that was after a year of using them all day (since I dont work and sit on the computer all day and night haha).

They are super comfortable with soft big ear cups and I hardley ever realize they are even on anymore, have the mic on the side of the ear cup so you can put it up or down and its away from your face, and that little volume adjuster on the cord which I use a lot.

I also had Razer Orcas for a long time but they dont have a mic so I upgraded to these....

Im a big Razer fan.

My wife got Turtle Beach Z11 and doesnt use them after a couple weeks because she says they hurt her ears because the ear cup sits on the ear instead of fully cupping.
