Resolved - Strange high pitch sound is killing me..

Question

Posted (edited)

Name: K. Lennings

Rank: Recruit

Type of issue: Hardware

Brief Description of Issue: I installed DoD:S on my MacBook Pro today, after some time spent configuring I got the fps and gui mod working properly.

But when I join the 1st MRB pub i get this really high pitch sound coming back in even intervals, (this only occurs when I play online.)

My guess is its some bird environment sound gone wrong, but I'm not sure. Sounds like "BRRRRR ZIIIIIIIIII"

If any of you know what this is, or know of a replacement pack for environment sounds, or simply know the names of the bird files I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out.

Thanks guys!

Lennings, I have run DoD:s on my MacBook Pro as well. I had some configuration issues, particularly with the sound. A few general questions:

Are you using the laptop built-in mic or have a headset?

Does the problem occur while you are running DoD:s and Ventrilo?

Have you tried running the game with the mic disabled?

That gives us a start, a base that we can work with. Personally I am Bootcamping Microsoft Windows on my mac laptop. Windows runs natively and everything works very smoothly. It might be something to consider if you have the resources to do it.

Thanks for your time Candy.

I'm using the built-in mic since mine does not even have a jack for an external one..

Don't know what I did other than disable voice in the dod options, it somehow re-enabled it self and the noise is gone!

I don't have Ventrilo installed on my Mac, but I do on my stationary.

Only use this when I travel.

So I think the problem is solved, unless its that we're on a custom map atm and the sound clip just isnt playing..

Anyways, thanks for all the help and I'll post again if the issue remains.

For what it's worth, if you hit your "push-to-talk" key while having voice disabled, it automatically re-enables it. Strange though how disabling in-game voice communication caused that noise. Was it loud, as in overpowering in-game sounds?

Glad to Hear Lennings! Please use the form next time as well ) Can we safely close this ticket then?

I will, and yes you do that.

Maybe I just had to enable and re-enable it once to remove the "bug", just installed it today and it made that noise the first and following runs before I got help ..

The only thing I did different was disabling the in-game voice and running mouse acceleration kill while the game was running instead of before starting it.

And yeah it was very loud and very high in pitch, it reminded me alot about the alarm from Half Life 2, witch sounds kinda like being denied access to a door or something like that.

Only this was a really pitched up version of it.. Very strange indeed, and I'm glad its gone, now i can go back to playing with my 720 x 480 resolution on this crapmac! ^^

Cheers!!

Edit: I found the alarm sound, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s83rFipdgG8
