Closed - Pixelated color in text, especially red

Question

Posted (edited)

Name: J. Griswold

Rank: SgtMaj.

Type of issue: Not Sure

Brief Description of Issue: Ever since I changed from a DVI to DVI connection to a HDMI to DVI I have noticed that the color red, when used in text or logo, looks very pixelated. I was wondering if there was any way I could fix this without switching back to a DVI to DVI connection.

What is the reason you want to use HDMI to DVI? Can you describe the pixelation better? Is it red bleed or is the HDMI cable carrying the wrong resolution? Is it HDMI out to DVI in or DVI out to HDMI in? Do you know what resolution your monitor handles? If your monitor is 1920x1200 the HDMI connection could be running 1920x1080 and that would look shitty.

No i don't have another cable to test, my monitor runs at 1920 x 1080 resolution. I can't really desribe it more that pixelation. Any color red tinted (red and purple I noticed this the most) looks very jagged. It is a HDMI out to DVI in.

I suspect that it has something to do with my capture that i had in-line with the setup i had. Because it was HDMI out to HDMI in on the capture card, then HDMI out from capture to DVI in on montior. The only thing i can assume is that MY capture card doesn't output in a RGB manner but rather a YCbCR pixel format that my monitor can't handle but i am unsure. I have removed the capture card from the line and it works fine so i have no idea what to do.

If you have a card that has an extra port or one that supports a DVI spiller then you could mirror your desktop and connect your capture card to that additional port.

Only problem is that I already have 2 montiors, i guess i could use eyeinity but that are the came resolution screens so it would be a weird desktop config and i could setup the card to duplicate that.

So when you take out the capture card are you connecting to the the monitor directly with the HDMI to DVI cable or a DVI to DVI cable?

It's direct HDMI to DVI without the capture card in the loop.

Is it all text everywhere? I know there is a known issue between Firefox and a recent update to Internet Explorer that makes text in Firefox distort and "pixelate." If you take a screenshot of the issue and it transfers to the screenshot, it could be an issue with your computer rather than the cable.

Well this is my theory, this thing was designed to output to HD TVs and not my LED flat screen monitor. I found out it outputs in UYVY format, which is YCbCR 4:2:2. I don't believe this monitor support such a graphic interface and is still RGB pixel based. So while my computer outputs RGB this thing transfers it to YCbCR that i can't use very well.
