Some already have noticed that I have been sending out some trade requests for people's cards and I wanted to explain further here why I am doing that. My main goal is to increase my maximum number of Steam friends allowed. Currently I am using 399 out of 415 but I run into the issue of limited slots routinely. I try to do a lot of recruiting and in that process I add a lot of people to my friends list. Part of the reason I add some many people to my friends list is to get people in the unit, but I am also trying to create ties with pubbers so that they want to continue to come back to our server.

For each level of Steam rank that you go up you get 5 extra friend slots added on to the maximum. The main way that you can increase your Steam rank is by crafting badges from game card sets. Each badge that is crafted gives you 100 XP towards your Steam rank. As you increase your Steam rank by ten (10, 20, 30, 40, etc.) the amount of XP required to move up increases and it is more difficult to rank. Early on it was fairly easy for me to rank myself by collecting cards and buying a couple in the market. Now however it is harder for me to rank up without spending quite a bit.

In a nutshell though the benefits of a higher rank are:

  • Increased max friend count
  • Increases your rate of receiving a booster pack drop: Level 10: +20% increase in your drop rate Level 20: +40% increase in your drop rate Level 30: +60% increase in your drop rate Level 40: +80% increase in your drop rate Level 50: +100% increase in your drop rate (i.e. the rate has doubled) Etc.
  • A random emoticon item created for this game, that can use in chat or discussions
  • A random profile background item created for this game, that can use on your Steam Community profile
  • A chance to get a discount coupon for a different game or DLC
  • A profile showcase you can add at the 10, 20, 30, etc. levels

If possible I am hoping to get any cards from people who do not intend to use them. If you want to gift me your unwanted cards please just post here, send me message through Steam, or send me a PM and I will setup a trade to make the exchange.

Also it is not my intent to purely horde all the cards either. If someone takes a look at my inventory and there is something that they need to craft a badge and I have extras I would be happy to give them to you.

: P I never understood these cards or badges or whatever, but I do know you can sell 'em for like .15 and I just bought 9 games with money from selling cards. Thank you BRADLEY, he gave me a bunch.

So with the big recruiting drive and in general I am once again dangerously low on my open friends slots. I have culled the list but most of the people I have left still sign on periodically so I would like to retain them. I have 469 out of 470 slots used at the moment. Please if people are willing to trade with me or give me any extra steam cards that the do not want, I would appreciate it a great deal if we could work something out. This will allow me to get a higher steam rank and will also give me additional friend slots.

I have never once seen item or gift drop in any game on steam I play. Is this some kind of setting I have to enable? I have gotten some cards just from playing that pop up when I'm done but never even half of what I need to complete badge. I got $0.31 once fore like one card; thought that was pretty cool; was trolling when I put it on sale.

Hey Marsden, send me a Steam message and I can help you. Looking at your Steam XP you are very close to going to the next Steam level which will get you 5 more friend slots. In your inventory you have a decent number of cards and you also have a booster pack for DoD:S which you can unpack to see what 3 cards you get. If you are missing a few I can help get the rest for you to get you to that higher Steam level by crafting a badge.
