Name: Gearhart

Rank: MSgt.

Type of issue: (Software, Hardware, Steam, Not sure) Steam/Hardware

Brief Description of Issue: So I just made a poster for the Events like the open realism and it came out fine...Now all of sudden when I started up SFM none of the Maps load for me. I cant get any into my SFM. The way I originally did it was import it with gcfscape, but I cant get it to do it again. I tried following the exact same tutorial I used when I first did it. I do not know what else to do. If anyone knows anything please let me know.

Start with the basics. Restart your computer (using the restart button).

Source Filmmaker is known to react very slowly. If Windows claims it is not responding, don't immediately close it. Let it sit for some time.

If it stores any kind of cache or temporary files, try clearing them.

Ensure you run the program as an administrator.

If you are trying to launch SFM directly, open up Source SDK first. From Source SDK, open any program (Hammer, or Model viewer). If loaded successfully, close the program and retry SFM. This should recreate a few common files they both rely on.

Ive tried opening thru SDK

I have tried restarting my computer.

The main issue is all my maps and im assuming models and materials are not there anymore. It opens fine I just dont know where my maps or models and materials went to.

This is the tutorial i used the first time. and now when i try it it does not work at all. Nothing works the same there arent any GCF files that i can open.

To verify, you are opening maps through the "BSP Files" folder, correct? This is where the default map files are supposedly stored.

Also, verify the game cache. It has been reported that the default maps for SFM can be mistaking deleted during use.

Keep in mind, SFM does not share assets with source games you have installed. If you are trying to use maps installed via one of the games, you need to manually copy the map files from the game installation location (ie. dods/maps) to (steamapps/common/source filmmaker/game/dods/maps).

You still need to port the models used in the maps yourself, else the maps will not work. As well, if you created the game/dods folder yourself, you will need to add a reference in the gamesinfo.txt file located in /games/usermod

I verified the integrity and nothing got fixed. Im trying to do exactly what the person did in his video. I have followed it in the past and it had worked, but now i cant get any files to open in GCFscape

I guess i dont know wat u would like me to look for?

If u look at the tutorial in his SteamApps folder he has a bunch of GameCacheFiles and I have 0. They are all now ApplicationCacheFiles (ACF)

So what i just read on a forum that all GCF files were replaced by ACF or VPK after steampipe..but i do not think that is true since i have used this tutorial after steampipe

I think because of the steampipe and all the files going from gcf to acf is why it's not working. Although you were able to use it after steampipe for a while, I think it was because it was still in the process of converting everything. I'll research more when I get home from work but I think you may have to reimport everything. I'll let you know what I find.

Researched that the .acf files are now used to run games because of the move to the cloud. Also found through a friend that the .acf files cannot be converted either.

Unresolved for now unless anyone else would like a shot.

I believe this will solve your problem

Make sure you have the latest version of GCFScape

Follow the instructions in the video, however when he tells you to open the DODS GCF file, instead open this file

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Day of Defeat Source\dod\dod_pak_dir.vpk

Then proceed with copying all the files he suggests out of that VPK file into your new folder within SFM. The rest should be the same.

One additional note in case someone consults this ticket in the future.

The VPK file doesn't seem to include the map BSP files, so there is an additional step required of copying the BPS files from your dods maps folder into the maps folder in the SFM folder the tutorial has you create.
