Who created realisms? The other day I was thinking about who or where the realism idea came from. Hopefully some of my fellow members can have some input here.

Has it always been in the format we use? Attack/defend, Attack/defend AvA.

And did it start with the original dod?

The format is usually the same, if not attack/defend then swap, it was attack/defend/defend/attack. AvA was something added, not all the realism units used it and stuck with Ties, sometimes there would be units that just continued to one more attack/defend round (if you started on attack, your last round would be another attack against their defense, usually a loss) but once the bigger units picked up AvA it caught on (everyone needs a fair tie-breaker!) and even then, "all rifles" and the "30-second" rule wasn't the norm.

I never played it, but I heard about original DoD realism units from the occasional recruit that was reminiscing about "the good old days" and wanted to rejoin the "newer" DoD:source realisms. I haven't heard a lot about how they ran them, but I have a feeling it was close to what I joined into 7 years ago.

Before the creation of realism mods, we had to stop-watch time each round, there was either a dedicated timekeeper on each team or a spectating ref. There were a lot of DQ's thanks to members accidentally rejoining the team instead of swapping to spectate. Boundries also used to be a lot stricter, they were more on "exactly" half the map rather than balance and realism. I think that evolution was needed, I always hated having "invisible walls" to stop me from playing realistically.

I joined dod 1.3 towards the end of the games life, but i was in realism units back in the day and like yamagata stated they were run off of timers and when u died u had to join spectate. today we are spoiled with mods but yea, brings me back to when i use to play it all the time. Two of the big units i was in were the 7th ID and the 1st DS. The 1st DS was a break off from the 7th ID. I was in the 7th ID for a short time and left when the 1st DS was begining to grow. I dont recall every unit i have been in, but yea most of them were short lived because the game was dying.
