Burning tire factory, I got some acid rain on my skin.

An hour ago I stood up and walked over to close the window, and when I stuck my head out I felt a burning sensation in my nose as I inhaled.

I then closed the window and sat down again, I then went online to check the news, on there I read that a fire had broke out in a tire factory 180 miles from where I live.

I went on to check the wind statistics in my area, and there has been a strong wind blowing straight my way for hours now...

So I continued to read, and started reading about tire fires, (there was not much info on tire factory fires.)

But I think a factory must be releasing a lot more bad stuff then just tires..

And I read this:

"Extinguishing tire fires is difficult. The fire releases a dark, thick smoke that contains carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and products of butadiene and styrene."

Then I read this about Butadiene:

"Acute exposure results in irritation of the mucous membranes (nose area), Higher levels can result in neurological effects such as blurred vision, fatigue, headache and vertigo. Exposure to the skin can lead to frostbite.[11]

Long-term exposure has been associated with cardiovascular disease, there is a consistent association with leukemia, and weaker association with other cancers."

I have had a bad headache all night, been drinking tons of water without it getting any better.

"Sulfur dioxide emissions are a precursor to acid rain and atmospheric particulates."

When I stuck my head out the window I got rain on my face and hands, my skin felt irritated straight away.

And this is something I noticed before I read the news.

I have washed my self with soap, is there anything else I should do?

Milk on my skin to neutralize the acid? :P

Am I being paranoid for no reason? I just had to share this because it feels weird just sitting here knowing this...

Thanks

Get to a hospital you may have a bit of Hydrogen cyanide poisoning, that is what is released when plastics, and rubber burns. You get a shot and start to feel better.

This is coming from a fireman who does hazmat exposures all the time.

I would definitely get some sort of medical attention.
