I need abit more detail,s before i can suggest any form of fix. By broken screen do you mean the screen is cracked? or is it something within the screen itself thats messing up?

The screen is cracked as need to be replaced. the price i was given to replace the said screen was 600 dollars. I am just asking anyone if they could do it for less. if not then save 600 dollars i do. Sorry i did not put this into the proper format.

Some suggestions would be to find a small repair shop in your town where you can look the owner or the staff in the face when you go in to ask for repairs, most sites also suggest the website Screentek, Most repairs unless the laptop is brand new or the fall destroyed everything, As in its more then just a cracked screen. You should only run 100 - 150$. You should check out this site yourself to see what's available for your model and at what price (usually about $100). Enter your laptop's make and model number in the Product Search field, and you'll quickly find the answers. It's a good idea to have this information if or when you call the repair shop. http://www.screentekinc.com/

Also, Make sure the damage isn't covered by a warranty, Because that could save you money entirely. its always good to check your warranty to see if its expired because you might not have to buy a new screen at all.

As for not putting this in the correct format, I handled the correction for you in the future however the format can be found in a pinned toppic inside the MSO office labled "MSO Help desk form"

They keyboard combination Win+P is used to switch which outputs are active. Try hooking up the external monitor, turning the computer on, waiting long enough that windows should be done booting, and then press Win+P one or twice. It's supposed to bring up a menu on the screen so you can choose which mode you want, but if you press it more than once it cycles through the settings.

need some information. What type of laptop is it? make and Model.

How far was it dropped and did it just crack the glass, or did it really break it where pieces came out of the glass?

Did it land on the bottom or the top? When I say top, I am referring to the back side of the part with the screen.

Do you still get any picture at all or is it just black?

We need to assess the damage to the screen. It is possible that it would just be cheaper to replace the laptop if they want $500 to repair it.

How old is the laptop?

If you can give the model type of the laptop, I can find you a replacement screen. Replacing isn't that hard, just a matter of being careful and taking your time to properly unclasp the bezel and unscrew the monitor. I can do it myself if you are uncomfortable performing the task, you would just have to order the screen and send it to me, I would replace it and return it. I'd need to know what kind of device it is first however.

As for the monitor not working, did you switch it over to Monitor mode? A lot of newer laptops have a FN key combo that requires you to hit the buttons together to switch it out to a monitor. If you did that and it still didnt work, your video card could be shot. It would depend on how it fell and how bad it is damaged. Pictures would help in this situation.
