How do you pronounce GIF?

I try to determine which pronunciation is the majority of the people I spend time with and choose the one that pisses someone off more. I find that using the "soft g - JIF" pronunciation usually sets people off, so that is my "go-to" pronunciation. I have yet to find someone with a die-hard attachment to the pronunciation "JIF" and an actual reaction to someone saying "hard g - GIF"

I suppose George is not pronounced as Jorge, or Geoffrey is not pronounced as Jeffrey. There are times where the G is pronounced as a J. This is one of those times.

English beats up other languages in the alley for spare nouns. English don't have rules concerning pronunciations of acronyms.
