Yamagata 1st MRB Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 I try to determine which pronunciation is the majority of the people I spend time with and choose the one that pisses someone off more. I find that using the "soft g - JIF" pronunciation usually sets people off, so that is my "go-to" pronunciation. I have yet to find someone with a die-hard attachment to the pronunciation "JIF" and an actual reaction to someone saying "hard g - GIF" Quote
Bradley 1st MRB Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 Anyone who pronounces it with a soft g should be lined up against a wall and shot. Quote

Beglar 1st MRB Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 How can you even pronounce this with soft "g", this is insane!!! Quote
J. Hill Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 I suppose George is not pronounced as Jorge, or Geoffrey is not pronounced as Jeffrey. There are times where the G is pronounced as a J. This is one of those times. Quote
J. Kirk Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 Hard G all the way. In my state its always fun to hear out of state people say a city called Puyallup. Quote
Woz 1st MRB Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 Hold on, I need to check this code into jithub. Quote
J. Anderson 1st MRB Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 But in all seriousness, even the creator of the .GIF pronounces it as "JIF" and corrects those that call it a "GIF" I'm guessing you are gonna vote for option 5? Quote
Lystad 1st MRB Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 (edited) "JIF" Edited July 21, 2015 by Lystad 1st MRB Quote
Kirkendall 1st MRB Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 If you follow this guy's logic, I hope to hear you pronounce SCUBA phonetically. I also want you to pronounce JPEG as J-Pheg. English beats up other languages in the alley for spare nouns. English don't have rules concerning pronunciations of acronyms. Quote
