High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane

If you happen to live anywhere near Toronto during the 2015 Pan-Am games, than you're well aware of some of the traffic clog ups that the games have caused over the first couple weeks of July. For those who don't, here's a quick rundown: Toronto is known for having some of the worst traffic in the world, and now in July, the HOV lanes require a minimum of three people per vehicle and every one else has to cram in the other couple lanes.

Is this normal that people don't use the very left (HOV) lane? Really a minimum of at least 3 people?! ^^ I'd never come to the idea to idle with the others on the middle lane

It's not normal, they are just doing it temporarily for the Pan American Games (The Olympics for the Americas) that are being held right now in Toronto.

Ya if you use the commuter lane without carpool you can get ticketted with depending on the area a fairly fat fine.

On a side note; I am amazed. Canada looks like western Oregon/Washington, I was expecting Ice and Bagged Milk everywhere

3+ people? Damn, that's harsh. Here in TN it is only 2+, but no one gets ticketed so everyone uses it anyways.

Toronto Police nabbed a man Wednesday morning using dummies as passengers while driving in lane temporarily designated for high-occupancy vehicles during the Pan Am Games.

Police say they spotted the man’s Dodge pick-up truck traveling eastbound on the Gardiner Expressway in the HOV lane with two passengers on Wednesday at 8:50 a.m.

The Dodge was following the new HOV rule of having a total of three people in the vehicle – or so it appeared.

But only one person in the car wasn’t made out of plastic.

The officer noticed that the front seat passenger did not appear to be “life-like.”

That was because it was a very well dressed mannequin, but everyone did have their seat belts on.

The driver was charged with the appropriate HOV offence.

And this is why i enjoy living in a small city. 5-10 minute commute to work and when theres a "traffic jam" its like 5 mins . Have you ( Parker) or Beglar gone to the games at all?

I did, to the cycling events. I loved the new track stadium and hope that it will remain and wont be demolished or converted to something else.

Yup, went to watch handball. The courts for handball are all temp so they won't be there after the games end, I'm not sure about the track stadium that Beglar is talking about. Is it the one in Etobicoke at Centennial Park (that one isn't new but maybe it was renovated)?

Once went to a Military Funeral through Hartford. Traffic was so bad it was unbelievable. Ended up with an escort down the HOV lane by a Trooper. We arrived on time.
