Yeah I saw this article and I don't think it was North Korea. While North Korea is not an allie of the west, I don't think it's dumb enough to attack South Korea right now. Then again, it may be the perfect timing with how things are going in the world and the U.S. right now. So I dunno what to think of it right now. It should be interesting to see what will happen not with just the U.S. but on a global scale.

Personally, I think that it is most advantageous for North Korea to attack South Korea right now for a number of reasons. One, if they have a nuclear arsenal then they will be able to deploy it quickly against South Korea and proximity allies. Two, the United States is currently involved in a prolonged war in the Persian Gulf and would have difficulty taking on a trained and equipped army. Third, with the state of the economy and currently devaluation of the American Dollar it is more difficult for America to purchase and import anything, including the oil needed for the war machine. And finally, Kim Jong-Il recently had a stroke and many speculate his health is deteriorating, so for him, it may be best to initiate a war to cement his place in Korean History not to mention, if he is concerned about a possible power struggle or coup attempt, a war is an effective way to dispose of political enemies.

I am not saying it will happen, but I am saying that now could be most beneficial for North Korea.

If NK goes south, I'm afraid that's how WW3 would start...I always speculated the PLA would join North-Korea if they invade the south or China will seize this as an opportunity to either attack Russia's oilfields up north or invade Taiwan. If nukes are involved then god help us all

Yeah Gooderham the points you made earlier were what I was thinking as well with the North making an attack on the south. The only thing I see holding the North back is China may push them off on the side to keep good trade relations with the United States and the rest of the world. That and North Korea has no money for anything and are at a near government collapse because of their current situation. Did a report a couple semesters ago about North Korea, hence my information there. Other than that, points well addressed.
