Overwatch is nearing release. Being developed by Blizzard, it seems to be a crossover between a FPS and a MOBA. Unique characters with differing abilities and pros/cons, fighting for an objective. Overwatch, the good guys, defending Earth interests, while the mysterious Talon fights on the other end. Here, have some trailers!

I have played games by Blizzard in the past.  I never will again.  They end up ruining the game or its all rinse and repeat.  It may look interesting to play Overwatch, but I will not buy another game from them after they stole money from me and refused to return it.

I understand you had a bad experience with Blizzard. I personally love their games. Played Starcraft and Warcraft for years. When they got into the MMO game with WoW they tended to just appease everything that their subscribers want, makes sense, thats pretty much the nature of MMOS these days from my experience. They don't want to lose their cash flow. I played Everquest of many years, they were pretty good about  making the content a challenge for about 3 expansions, then they made leveling and crafting too easy and I lost interest. This game looks pretty sweet to me, may have to check it out.

I don't have much interest in the game, but I assume people who are here have seen the latest controversy to spring up around it that just happened today (really its a wider issue with Blizzard than the game itself, IMO)? Really seems to have caused a backlash among many of the more vocal fans and testers, and Totalbiscuit made an amazing parody video of how ridiculous of a complaint that started the whole thing was, I highly recommend checking it out if you haven't, its a good laugh.

Thanks Yama. I don't understand all the commotion. The pose didn't seem too bad, but I can see how it didn't fit her character as well. The people all upset about them changing a stupid pose sound like those gamergate guys who think any undersexualization in video games is the end of the world.

Teasers for the first balance update

TL;DR

Expect a damage drop for McCree, the devs didn't intend for him to be able to shred tanks so effectively. So at the very least, a damage drop for "Fan the Hammer".

Expect a buff for DVA. She's currently rated as low damage and low survivability, and the devs are going to decide which should be buffed.

I expect other balance changes, however these are the only ones being teased thus far.

AND Blizzard again attempt to balance out damage because they were idiots when the developed it and did not test it adequately to begin with.  Unfortunately, speaking from experience, they will continue to do this for the next few years and alienate a lot of players.  Seen it from them before.

If there's anything Blizzard is good at, it is re-balancing.  They made A LOT of changes during beta, Bastion used to have a little Reinhardt shield in turret mode, balanced.  Now that it's in Full Release, they have tons more data on which to base their balancing, it might not make everyone happy, but they do their best based on the numbers.

They cannot ever appease all their players because most players have different play styles, conflicting input and experience.  For every person that wants a buff for the character they play, there will be another that wants a nerf for that character.  With years of experience, I think Blizzard has the best track record for making useful balancing changes.

As with any PVP game, I would rather an involved developer that tries to balance their game with regular patches than a developer that takes the money and is done with a broken game.  I think leaving the game unbalanced and allowing players exploit it alienates more than forcing those that found the exploits to a level playing field.

Balancing happens in almost every game, especially in this genre. League of Legends, Dota, CS:GO, Smite, Heroes of the Storm, and others all have patches/updates to address balancing needs. So it's not Blizzard being idiots, it's Blizzard trying to improve on their already impressive product.

yea, but Blizzard tends to carry it to extremes sometimes.  After 10 years of playing WoW, they still were changing specs to try and balance them, nerf those that did good, and overpower those that were just bad players and didn't know how to play their character.  Saw it a lot with them.  I had a little Hunter that was in a 3v3 PVP match.  Took out 2 plate wearers, A Paly and a Warrior, so they nerfed my class saying we were to overpowered.  I was just good and the others were not.

I don't play WoW so I can't speak to that, however, I play(ed) other Blizzard products such as Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone and most recently Overwatch. None of these games have really overpowered characters, they are all pretty well balanced. It's all about the player, if you're good at the game then you're gonna perform well with any character you play. I'm quite happy with the balance of power for characters in Overwatch, they each have their pros and cons and some are more suitable for certain situations than others.

It seems like due to your long experience with how they handle WoW you're bunching all other Blizzard games into the hate pile. There's no reason to hate Blizzard for Overwatch, they have done a great job and have released a reasonably well balanced set of characters. You should give the game a try :D

I can argue for the idea that Blizzard took the approach of making most of their Heroes OP/Strong but using counters to balance it out. Makes the game tilting af but no matter who you play you can participate in eliminations and the objective.
