Name: Ultranator

Rank:  BAR

Type of issue: (Networking)

Brief Description of Issue: So, I bought a house, and when doing the final walk throughs, now that all the furniture was removed, I've noticed that each room has an Ethernet jack.

in the master bedroom closet, I found this little gem :

Now, I'm pretty sure that isn't a switch, but what is it?  And can I use it to get internet to all of the jacks in the house?

The boards are an old security panel and a telephone line splitter, he and I talked about it and he's just going to buy a new switch and disconnect all that junk.  I think it's all resolved.

Well, now that I can see the make and model, here's a user's guide for the distribution panel : http://www.security.honeywell.com/documents/CSQND88PUGV1.pdf

It looks like it's a super simple unmanaged switch.

And the security board: http://library.ademconet.com/MWT/fs2/VISTA-20P/Vista-20P-Users-Guide.PDF (more documentation) for home security and fire alarms.

Did the house used to have cameras? That looks like a camera setup. The board with the Red and black wires was def for power and the other connectors on the unit next to the battery back up look like video connections. The rest just looks like a patch point for Eth so they could consolidate it.
