Question

As those on the roster probably know, I have a problem on luebeck1945 where my graphics card will randomly crash for no reason, and my whole computer will go down. This has only happened on dod_luebeck1945_b1 and dod_jagd, but I'm assuming it could happen on any, unless it's something on those maps that causes it. I was wondering, has anyone had a similar problem, and how did they fix it/if anyone knows how to fix it.

You may have had problems downloading and installing something in those maps, corrupting them, and so you're graphics card puts more and more effort into running it perfectly that it overloads and shuts down. I've never seen your computer so I couldn't really tell you, I'm just spitballing here. It would be easier if I knew all your specs.

Does it beep when it freezes/shuts down?

I believe if it was an overheating issue it would beep repeatedly when you try to reboot it right away, or it beeps just prior to shutdown (although I don't think so).

Have you checked/updated your video drivers? How about your audio drivers? If not, I recommend checking there and making sure that your drivers are up to recent date.

Both sets of drivers are up to date, and no, it just freezes and the screen goes black. Teamspeak sometimes still works, as I've been in a TS server with friends when my game has crashed.

And no, repeated beeping on startup is usually a RAM issue, not a heat one. Heat problems usually just cause your computer to shut down, or the respective part of the computer, as most hardware is designed with a failsafe to kill power to itself before it fries.

Well, I have seen it where overheating has lead to beeping on certain mobo's. My old PC was that way - when I first built it and was tinkering with the water cooling, there was a couple times where it overheated. It shut down completely, and when I turned it back on, it beeped and would shut down again until it had time to 'cool off'.

Do you run any mods or anything in your game?

If Teamspeak still works occasionally, that is interesting. Do you use a 'push to talk' with Teamspeak? If so, it would still be registering the keyboard (and probably mouse as well) which would point to perhaps something video related.

Have you given your Computer a good dusting out with compressed air? (I imagine you probably have - but I gotta ask)

Also,

Have you attempted to close down as many programs as you can while running the game to minimize the risk that it might be some sort of software colliding with the game itself while running?

That might be the easiest way to troubleshoot first and foremost. Close down absolutely EVERYTHING you can that's running (and check your process' for extra junk you don't need) and play the game. Still crash? Okay then - we'll have to look into something else.

OR,

Are you familiar with hijack this! ?

There are two programs I've found that work amazingly with one another - one is called Glary Utilities found here:

http://download.cnet.com/Glary-Utilities/3...4-10508531.html

This does a great job of fixing bad registry errors that can sometimes cause weird computer crashes/issues.

Hijack This can be found here:

http://download.cnet.com/Trend-Micro-Hijac...4-10227353.html

You can use hijack this to get a log of your system, and copy/paste that log output into this website:

http://www.hijackthis.de/

It will tell you which registry keys are bad or need to be removed.

I've used those two programs with GREAT success in speeding up a lot of slow machines. Not sure if it would definitely fix the issue, but worth a shot if you haven't tried them already.

I use voice activation. Vent, which is push-to-talk doesn't work. And yes, I've shut down everything but DoD, still does.

As well, Windows has told me it's my video card, it created a crash log, which I didn't bother to keep, telling me the hardware problem was a video card issue.

As well, I don't much trust something called "hijack this", the name just seems fishy...

.. That's probably the point. Maybe you're video card is fried man, I know every now and then mine will say "Your video card has stopped responding but has recovered" Maybe yours isn't recovering, which is why TS still works

If it were fried I wouldn't be able to play BC2 and other graphically-intensive games without it doing the same. It's a rather specific few maps on DoD, which is what I don't get.

The only other game this ever used to happen in was Cod:WaW, and only if I had MSN running in the background and my PC was dusty. And then it was a matter of time, not map.

Okay, so for all intents and purposes this crash looks to be causing loss of input from the keyboard as well.

And the Crash Logs point to video card... hmm...

What kind of video card do you have? What's the date on your drivers?

Also, Hijack This, has been around for a LONG time.. It's like a staple program for people looking to clean up/speed up their PC's. Because it's like an 'ultimate cleaner' in the fact that when you tell it to get rid of something - it's permanent. You shouldn't be worried about it - you can do research on it to see it's a legit program.

It is not like a lot of programs that just 'partially delete' stuff, or 'quarantine' something, this completely erases it. It's gone. That's why it's such an effective program and so many people like it - it doesn't pussy foot around. It gets down to business. That's also why you should only use it if you know what you're doing.

That's why I like that log translater so much - it takes out the work for you - it literally tells you what is 'nasty' and should be deleted, and which stuff is fine to keep on your HD.

Also the Glary Utilities program is very user friendly, and also just as good about cleaning up/fixing registry errors that might cause nasty slowness and/or crashing.

NVidia GeForce 9600GT with the driver revision 197.13, should be the latest, it was during the realism at least.

As well, I'd be more inclined to take the rick of accidentally fucking this computer up if it weren't a family computer.
