So I have been thinking over about joining the Marine Corps and it all sounds great, but I'd like to get some opinions from some Marines who are not in the recruiting office. Whats the whole experieance like? Where were you shipped off to? Has it been like you imagined it? Anyone gone through JROTC? That was where I was leaning towards.

Ok. Lemme set the record straight. The Marine Corps is a great thing. This organization that i am fortunate to be a part of takes care of its people to an extent

I was unfortunate in the fact that I ended up in a shitty unit when I first hit the fleet. Boot Camp sucked, but its gonna suck, because its supposed to. MCT (Marine Combat Training) is for non infantry MOS Marines. That sucked worse then boot camp, because I had it for 4 weeks in the field in December, during a rainy month. It blew. MOS School was cool, had a good time. The Fleet....well its good and bad. It all depends on your unit and your MOS. I mean I have heard stories ( i think they are myths) about units that actually take care of their Marines. However, there are a lot that don't.

Also, ask your recruiter about Firewatch, Police Calling, Chinese Field Day, 15 Minutes Prior rule, the TRUTH about boot camp, waking up at 0 fucking dark ass in the morning, cleaning your rifle more then you shoot it....just to name a few.

Anyway, I mean its up to you. There is a ALOT of bullshit that goes on, but there are times you'll never forget along the way.

I can't speak on any actual experience like McKenzie, however I can tell you what it's like growing up a child of a Marine. My father spent time at both Pendleton and Parris Island, more so at PI. We moved, a lot. I made friends, moved, made new friends, moved, rinse , repeat. The Marines really messed my dad's head up, to the point where he couldn't leave work at work and separate civilian time from work time. He was a DI 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A lot of that had to do with Vietnam mind you, but The Corps really was instilled in him through and through.

Don't get me wrong, he loved the USMC, to the day he died he wore a buzz cut, and he was the only person I know who woke up at 3:30 everyday of the week to do his own personal PT. Even after he retired and did odd jobs here and there to keep himself entertained, he talked non stop about The Marine Corps. The one thing he always told me however, was don't enlist. He didn't want me to enlist not because of hatred towards Marines, he just hated the way it was becoming "pussified" and I quote him on that.

All in all, I have no actual experience of my own, but I grew up surrounded by him and his friends, and they always had a good time. Whether it was getting the Mess Officer to "let some steaks fall off the truck" so they could take us all out to Elliots Beach on PI for a cookout. Going to night fire on the rifle range and watching the tracers (one of my favorite things as a kid), or just the overall camaraderie that I saw these men have with each other. That was one of the biggest things I saw, Marine looking out for other Marines. Anything one of them needed, the others would do what they had to do to make sure their brothers where taken care of.

semper fi or die there one of the best disciplined and trained if u dont want as much in the suck than go to the air force or navy but if u want one of the best brotherhoods ever and the best trained than theres only one and that is the corps but all the branches are great too bc were ll for one cause so its whatever u truly feel that u can do but always remember:

GOD IS THE ONE TO FORGIVE BIN LADEN BUT THE MARINES ARE THE ONES THAT ARRANGE THE MEETING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most Marines that I have come across are dumb as rocks, but they're good at what they do. So I can't complain about them at all. Other than the fact that they work for the Navy.... lol jk jk
