The gun is just like the stock only a lot more detail. It is very nice to use. The metal could have been made to look a shade darker but it is still a nice skin. I have tested most of the top rated pistol skins and this one is the best. It may look a little green but that was done on purpose by the creator. During WWII the pistols that were issued from 1943-1945 had a green hue to them. It is also nice that when your teammate pulls their pistol you see your skin and not the stock.

The only issue I have with this skin is that when you pull out the gun, you cock the gun back magically without using your left hand. It's not too much to get past though.

In order to install the skin that you want to use you have to open that skins particular file folder and take it's american .vtf file and replace your existing one in your C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\[ACCT NAME HERE]\day of defeat source\dod\materials\models\player\american folder (- the x86 if not on a 64 bit OS) two of the skins inside of the pack have there own read me files.

Other Comments: This was a fairly good re-skin; the Hi-res Normandy skin is alright but the camouflage is a bit off; the color looks almost like it is mud smeared but it is to regular (coloring is to even no signs of "smearing" at the edges) to give the impression of having been rubbed on and the texture is that of fabric, and their positioning make it easy to line up kill-shots as axis. The biggest brown section is across the chest of the allied player with an olive drab around until the thighs and elbows of the model, not enough to give you an unfair advantage just enough to have a specific section of the model to track when strafe fighting.

The Sicily skin feels almost exactly like the stock skins with a slightly different coloring, a different collar and a Canadian regimental patch on it. This skin is decidedly sleeker as far as were fabric lines are thane the stock skins though. This File has another credits readme.

The powers67 low res skin is just from what I could tell a Dark green version of the stock skins again with a Canadian regiments patch on it. By the way this skin has it's own readme file with install steps.

One aspect that threw me a bit on this pack is the new allied flag. It's a Crimson with a coat of arms in the middle. So I found myself running to friendly controlled flags a bit because I would spot the red on my screen and chill under it for a second, or adversely on axis ignore an enemy flag thinking it was capped until I realized how much brighter the flags were and moved on it. Not anything against this flag though because now that I'm used to it I have no issues with the flag points was just a bit of work at first.

Playing on a computer that can run dod really well makes it stand out a bit more, but probably would not look as nice on a computer that doesn't run it very well, like the one I play 95% of the time on.

Other Comments: This is a nice little reskin of the american smoke grenade. You can actually read a serial number on the spoon of the grenade in this version of the smoke grenade which is a nice addition over just a smudge that might be a number or a symbol. You by no means gain an advantage from using this skin althoug hthe grenade does look more proportionate to your hand. Outside of the size difference the only really difference I can see over stock skins is that this smoke grenade has a bit more texture added to the skin and an overal higher resolution allowing more o the detail to show through. All in all this skin receives 4 skulls out of 5.

Other Comments: The allied models are very clean and I like the cloth look to the uniforms. I would like to see the 3rd ID's patch/symbol removed from the helmets though. And maybe change the spade on the back to a Diamond so that way it doesn't look like a standard Army Issue helmet as this is supposed to a Marine Corps Skin and they had different helmets. Aside from that one small thing this is a great skin pack, it's nice to see a bunch people with raiders patches on their shoulders rockin in the pub or during a realism, also the patch helps to distinguish if it's an enemy peaking the corner or not, as it is one of the first parts of the model you will see if someone is peaking.

Comments: I will be rating the changes that Takel made to the skins and the context in which they will now be used.

The Bad:

Rifleman -

Assault - There is a ranger logo on the back of the helmet

Support - There is a ranger logo on on the back of the helmet and there is netting on the helmet

Sniper -

MG - There is netting on the helmet and I would have liked to have seen the same rank as the sniper because in the 1st MRB you do not need to obtain TSgt. before you are allowed to use the MG.

Rocket - There is a ranger logo on the back of the helmet

The Good:

The text on the back of the jackets doesn't stand out but still lets you know that they are 1st MRB skins.

The text on the front pockets was also well done.

The patches no longer glow! They have been toned down and look quite nice.

The glowing arm patches have been fixed. This is great but the other problems still exist. The netted helmets were not issues to marines as far as I know. The ranger logo would not have been seen on a marine issued helmet. And the biggest item of all is that they are army uniforms that now feature marine patches. I know that we all had high hopes for this project and I know that Jones and Takel put in a great deal of work, but there are still a lot of faults with these skins. If you made these available to the public on gamebanana.com you would probably see these same comments.

After a lot of consideration I have decided to make these skins Raider Approved. They do not give the user any advantages over using just stock skins so there is no reason for them not to be allowed.

Other Comments: I had my doubts about this skin. After using it for a few days I fell in love. It comes complete with all models so that even when you see someone else holding their knife it is the KA-BAR and not the stock. There is very little difference between the black lacquered and parkerized versions. One is simply a shade darker. Looks very authentic. I looked up the knife and it said that this was the knife issued to marines during WWII. It also said that it was very common for it to come parkerized and then the marines would spray paint them to make them a shade darker. I would recommend this skin.

Other Comments: I don’t like this skin very much. While comparing it to the original allied pistol model they did not change the design of the gun that much. The only visible model change I could see is that they made the circle on the gun to the bottom right of the back sights more defined. They also made the grip a little bit brighter. The reason that I do not like this skin is because they tried to change the colors of the gun to make it look more rustic, but they did not do a good job and made the gun look splotchy. Comparing it to the stock gun it looks very poorly made. Positive- They did make it so when you look at other players pistol you can see the modded skin.

Other Comments: I think that this is a realistic allied player model skin that would represent something that you would have seen a marine wearing in WW2. The skin is a jungle camo print that consists of green and yellow (both with a tan hue to them). What I really like about this skin are the extra details put into the skin such as the 1st MRB logo on the right and left shoulders as well as a 1st MRB logo on backpacks worn by the rifle and support class. Even though this skin is slightly brighter than the stock skin, after playing it on for a month I do not feel like it gives any advantage for the axis side. Cons- The only problem that I can find on this skin is that the 1st person model’s sleeves are not changed and are still the regular stock tan color (this is because she does not know how to change them).

However what I did to get it installed was Copy the Materials folder from the DL itself and then to paste it into my dod folder therefore merging the two folders and removing what was not needed and adding what is needed.

Other Comments: This is a clean re-skin of the stock hands. It has a nice level of detail added to the hands with tendons added in on the backs of the hand, more attention paid to the knuckles and Cuticles.

One of the small things that bugged me is that the skin is glossy, when an actual light entity in game is directed at the hands it reflects back and it looses a lot of the detail for a time, it is just something that erks me a bit. Another error that I noticed is that the wrists taper down pretty heavily at some angles making it look like it is like a prosthetic that is held in place with a peg and a port under the players sleeve, it is not something that is present at all points of view but it is still there.

This skin receives 4 Skulls out of 5 due to the issue with the glossiness and the issue with the Wrists tapering down over dramatically.

It's not super accurate to the WWII era unless you're Russian and couldn't afford new guns at the time, but it looks and sounds pretty sweet. You can tell that A LOT of time went into the animations and in-depth workings with this skin. It really shows. High quality stuff. If you can get over the era difference and just accept the awesome-ness of this skin, I would DEF suggest it.

Other Comments: This skin is great, the detail on it is very good, the materials on the uniform actually look like they are durable instead of just a skin pasted on like some player skins I've seen. It is definitely a HD skin, made to look great. I was curious if the white helmet would make things easier to shoot allied players but it didn't really make much of a difference. If I am going to see your head I will, the white didn't give players away any better than the normal skin. The boots on the skin are also a nice quality of this, I feel they actually look more realistic, and durable as well. Also there is still a difference between classes, as in the look of their uniform and what they carry are still different just like the normal skins, but all look great and durable like I stated before. I would say this skin is perfectly fine for use, and props to the creator and their work on it.

Other Comments: I could not use the WinRAR extract to get the files into place. The Read Me tells you to just extract to the dod folder through the WinRAR system, which works will for some things but doesn't work for me on this one.

The destination is:

C:/Program Files/Steam/Steamapps/<username>/day of defeat source/dod/materials/models/weapons/v_models/hands

Once loaded it looks pretty good. Take away he fake hand look and adds some smoothness. There is no w_model (world model) so you won't see the gloves on your teammates or opponents. Though not everyone wears gloves all the time
