Question

Posted

I recently built a new computer and I feel its really good. win7 64, I7 2.8gh, 4g ram, 300mb hd, ATI Radeon HD 5700. However i feel like my graphics are sad to watch and i get choppy game play with lots of choke. I was looking at this website and it mentioned an item called Game Booster (http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html). So i was wondering would something like this benefit myself to get better game play?

Another question, can having my graphics maxed in DoD:S mess up my gameplay? I always figured better graphics would equal better accuracy but i dont know anymore.

Turn on Vertical Sync in the graphics settings of DoD. That should stop any screen tear, which could be the "choppyness" you're talking about.

Also, 300MB Hard drive, how'd you fit an OS on that :P? I take it you mean 300GB?

Gamebooster will help a little from what I've heard, but most implementations I've heard of it are to squeeze a few more years out of older computers for broke gamers.

Also, stupid question but is your Graphics Card plugged into you Power Supply properly?

Getting a lot of choke usually is because of improper net related settings for your system, but can imply other issues too. (I would say 'maybe your graphics are under powered - but your PC is great)

With how new your system is, and how powerful it is - you shouldn't be getting 'choppy' graphics at all. I play on a system that has a graphics card with only 1/4th of that GPU power and my graphics are flawless 98% of the time.

1st - Update your drivers. YES, this is VERY important. Make sure they're ALL up to date. Takes a little time, but it's COMPLETELY necessary and will help greatly with making sure they are NOT the issue.

Also, again, when you get a new system, it's very important to setup the game settings to your individual PC. Just looking online and finding 'perfect settings' for some other guy, with some other PC, won't work for you. Often times it will cause WORSE game play for you!

There is a lot of documentation out there on lowering your lerp, yet keeping your choke in acceptable ranges (0 if possible, but up to around 10-12 choke under heavy fire with tons of people around is still moderately acceptable). Anything significantly higher and you WILL notice terrible bullet registration etc.

I believe the formula used by Valve is:

cl_interp_ratio/cl_updaterate = cl_interp

With regards to your choke, and the fact that your graphics are very choppy, my FIRST inclination is that it's a driver issue. Because most of the settings that effect your choke - don't do jack squat for your graphics. So the fact your getting TONS of choke, as well as choppy graphics (with such a great graphics card) really points towards drivers...

If you're 100% beyond positive that your drivers are COMPLETELY up to date, then we'll have to bark up another tree :)

Hope this helps!
