the craig anderson for brian elliot trade was pretty significant for the avalanche as well. they have to try and right the ship. not really sure what they did helps right now though.

i agree. like i said, i dont think for them it was an attempt to get better/worse, but to just get something different.

though this hockey day in america thing is a joke. they schedule 3 games for a sunday afternoon, yet because nbc has en exclusive window to broadcast, none of the games are on center ice. you can apparently watch online for free. but 1)i dont want to sign up for their stupid gamecenter app so they can spam my email forever and 2)i shouldnt have to watch a crappy quality internet feed when i pay out the wazoo for center ice.

felt like a pretty bland deadline day overall. no big time drama like the last few years. will be interesting to see how penner fits in los angeles.

interesting to see the jackets finally move klesla. he never seemed to fulfill his potential after being a top 5 pick so many years ago.

the wings didn't make any moves as expected. for them, that must mean osgood can make it back as there was talk that if he was going to be out for a while, they would get another backup. while its always exciting to see teams make moves, i feel they have a quality team and am still excited going into the playoffs. with their injuries again this year, getting everyone healthy is just as important as a move.

FUCK YEAH BABY!, FUCK CHICAGO!

I wouldn't have so much confidence when Chicago came back to tie the series AND they tied it with a minute left in game 7. You guys choked, but got lucky. Good luck facing Nashville.

Go Leafs Go

*Comeback Reminder* If you try to make fun of the fact that I root for Toronto, just remember one number - 13.

I had Vancouver winning that series in 5, and it looked that way until they decided to choke. But as a Philly fan, I'm glad Chicago is out and my vote for the west is Nashville.

Because they deserve it

I'm not making excuses of ANY kind because the reality is the Canucks nearly lost the series. However, part of the issue was some seriously lopsided officiating. Gillis (the GM) in an interview talked about how tilted it was perceptually.

Anyways, I'm glad we took care of them, exorcised those demons, on to Nashville!

there was definitely some bad officiating in that series. i guess the hawks deserve a bit of credit for fighting back, but theres millions of times teams and individuals 'almost' did something great. in the end, the hawks squeaked into the playoffs and then busted out in the first round. their bandwagon should be emptying as we speak. the canucks certainly looked much worse in the last week than they have in a while, however i don't think its indicative of them falling apart. i think nashville will be tough for them but thats just the way they play. you have to earn every inch. however, the preds just dont have much scoring so that might do them in.

i think the wings sharks series will be good. could go either way. would have loved to see the lightning advance and the sabres, so a lot of my interest in the east is waning.

and parker, if you want to talk numbers, theres none more important than 1967. leafs haven't ever won a cup with more than 8 teams in the league! :P

(for the record, i think its awesome that you are a loyal fan through the tough years. as a cubs fan in baseball, i share your misery. but you started it, so i couldn't help myself)

hey i got no problem with the 13 cups since the wings have 11. but at least they earned some hard ones. i am especially proud they were able to win the 08 cup in the salary cap era. they got a lot of grief about buying cups after that 02 team, so the recent one was well earned.

the original six era skews a lot of numbers so its hard to put too much stock into things.

and yes, the cubs do suck. they had a real chance in the mid 2000's, but have tons of bad contracts they are still stuck with. i did enjoy the jays teams in the early 90's. i always try to root for them against the yankees and red sox. them and the orioles have it tough. at least the devil rays were able to break their death grip on the east.
