More or less, it's more about not being sociably acceptable. I don't have a problem with it, but for the working class people (not saying you don't work) and the public it isn't okay. So if you came to my place of business and you were looking for a job, I would instantly turn you down without any hesitation. The reason for this is because you most likely would be in the public eye, and your appearance would be bad for business. I would probably hire you if I owned or managed a Hot Topic, Spencers, or some tattoo/piercing shop, but other than that... no. The look and expression you have embraced is only disliked because of what is associated with it. (blah blah blah insert your MLK quotes of equality and judgment here for a counter) The thing is you know you do the same thing, you see a guy who looks like a gang-banger you're instantly going to start judging the guy, for example, "Does this joker have a gun," "This guy is nothing but a dirty criminal." Could be some examples. Stereotyping and judging people is more or less a survival instinct, it's an awareness of who is around you and who they really are. If I saw some mofo come into a gas station with a hoodie on during the summer time, and wearing sunglasses when it's 9 o'clock at night, I'm going to think that some shit is about to go down. Other than that, I think you might grow out of it sooner or later, it just takes life and realizing it's hard to just live on minimum-wage to smack you in the face to realize something needs to change.

Stereotyping is an instinct because it is a base survival skill too. when you see a gang-banger and wonder if he is packing it might stereotype some kid trying to be "hood" but it might also be correct and since you are keeping an eye on the kid you might be able to notice something... but i'm not saying to base your behavior around someone only on the stereotype they give off. some of the most kind hearted people are the people who break the ordinary by being dressing in all black, tattooed, wearing the baggy clothes, hoodies, pierced, etc have been the ones who break up the fights and who help those in need. while the people who are dress nice in business suits and expensive "designer" clothing would rather walk over you or leave in on the ground bleeding to death. [no offense to you who wear black i used to as well]

Appearances can also be deceiving there was a couple who went into a Cabela's outfitter and they were dressed in holed jeans, old dirty t-shirts they were passed on by most of the outfitters for our club card [a credit card with Cabela's name on it] finally an outfitter(employee) asked them if they wanted one they said yes. when they finished the paper work they background credit check told the outfitter they made over a million dollars a year..... soooo where was the expensive clothes? how about the exotic car? or the jewelry... they didn't "bling" themselves out like so many of todays over the top celebrities they were just ordinary or even under averagely dressed...

moral of the story its not the clothing or music or tattoos or piercings that make a person it is the heart (cheesy i know i know). appearances will always be deceiving and stereotypes will always be around it is up to individuals to look past that and into the character of the person.
