Looking for a New Case

Question

Posted

Hey, so I'm going to look for a new case while I'm at it cause the current case is one of those slim ones and it tends to trap in a lot of heat (possible reason why my fan blew so soon).

My current computer model number is Aspire X1301 also called AX1301-E9202.

I've looked around newegg.ca and found this one. As you can see, I'm looking for a CAD $70 max including the power supply unit.

So I've got a stupid question: will my current motherboard fit this case? I don't know what type my motherboard is....I've looked on the manuals but it doesn't say anywhere!

The CPU and the GPU seems to match up but my memory is only 3GB and HDD is 320GB.

Are there only Micro-ATX and ATX motherboards out there? Is it safe to buy a case that supports both Micro-ATX and ATX motherboards?

PSU is more than I need because my current one is 300Watts and i was fine running everything with it.

my MAIN QUESTION is, what motherboard is inside my Aspire X1301? ATX? Micro-ATX? If I buy a case that supports both ATX and Micro-ATX, am I in the clear?

CPU-Z will tell you more about the motherboard. Just google it for the download, it's free.

If the one you have is Model Number WMCP78M, then it's not a form fitting model. It's larger than a Mini atx, but smaller than a Micro atx. Made specifically for that case. Which also means it can't be replaced with anything other than a replacement provided from ACER.

I wouldn't worry too much about a new case for that motherboard, it will probably only mount in the one it's in, the screw holes look to be in an unusual pattern.

I have been wrong before though.

Hey Ford.

Yeah I just checked and the motherboard is WMCP78M. So that means I can't transfer the motherboard over to mATX and ATX compatible case? If that's the case, that sucks.....

As I said, Ive been wrong before.

As far as I know that motherboard is made specifically for that case. I don't want to tell you yes it will fit in a different one only to be wrong and have you waste money on a new case.
