by setting your clocks slower five minutes, youre less prone to be late for things... but thats under clocking. Don't know about over clocking as much

How is making your clock 5 minutes before its original time make you less prone to being late??? You would want it to be 5 minutes after the original time so that you feel your time is closer then it should and you move ahead of schedule.

First, overclocking can permanently damage your computer. Do so at your own risk.

Overclocking is where you increase a few of the settings on your processor, video card, or RAM to increase the overall speed of the system.

A very basic look at it would be to say that your processor (CPU) has two numbers that influence your overall speed (ghz). There is a front side bus (FSB) or hypertransport or whatever you want to call it and there is the multiplier. The FSB is usually 200 mhz and it is then multiplied by 15 to reach 3000mhz (3ghz). But if you increase the fsb by 10, bringing it to 210, you are now running at 3150 mhz. Congratulations, you've just overclocked your cpu. This FSB also used to overclock your memeory, but that just isn't the case any more.

Make no mistake, overclocking memory today is pretty complex and I really don't want to get into it because very, very few programs (certainly not DODS) are starving for memory bandwidth.

You can also do something similar with gpus. Generally, you've got a few more options. If you take my 5770, it has the gpu clocked at 850 mhz and memory at 1,200 mhz. You need a program like rivatuner to overclock your gpu well. You can use some of the built in tools with either the Catalyst Control Center or nvidia's driver, but rivatuner is THE way to do it. You can increase these clocks pretty straightforwardly.

Typically, you can overclock any component by 10% pretty safely. A lot of the recent intel processors are overclocked by 25% (3 ghz to 4+).
